So, I pull up to the library, I get out and lock up and head around the van to see (See photo) a older female (She was about 70) struggling to get out of her car. When I had problems (When I owned a car and had trouble getting out) I usually parked the car so it fit....

Oh yeah, how about that plate of hers...nice touch right?

Somebody invented a gadget that sticks in the door catch to help old people get in and out. They seem to work great.

Don't get me started. People need to learn how to park evenly between the lines and not ding my door because they are too careless and lazy to park straight!

They also make a great step for accessing the roof.

I just open a rear door if I need to get to my roof. The external hinges make great steps.

Would you have a link to one of these?  I'm looking for something like that.   Vic

Don't know where you would get one(ebay?).I just saw a couple of old farts using them.

They are called a "car cane" at least the one I bought is.  A quick search on Google will return a lot of purchase options.  Search from Bob's Amazon link here if you want to buy from Amazon ($15.50).

The other day I parked and a woman pulled in so close I could not get out my door. She got out and I called to her. She shot me the finger and kept walking. I tried to open my door again...oopsy, nice ding on a little blue car  :p
Had to climb back and exit the side doors.

When staying in a parking lot, I'm still surprised how often I hear people bang up against my van. Firstly that people are that clumsy, and secondly that they're too unaware to consider there may be someone inside a camper van! I'm always attentive of my surroundings and not touching other peoples' cars so I sometimes forget that is not the case with others. but even still I wouldn't go leaning on random cars in a parking lot. Lots of inconsiderate types out there.

When I am in my RoadTrek I usually park a long way from the the store, in no mans land, to avoid the door bump but invariably when I come out of the store someone is parked right beside me. Go figure?
Bob

what gets me is people with little cars making turns like they are driving a semi with a 53' trailer. highdesertranger

A couple of months ago I came out of the drug store to find a minivan parked so close to my car that I had to squeeze between them and struggle to get in the open door.  Once I sat down I looked over and noticed the sticker on their window.  Funny and ironic that some idiot has this sticker on their window but parks so close to another car.

Well that's just scary       What could they be "cooking"  or "making" in the van that requires a 8ft safety zone?                                        TJB

Usually that sticker is for a handicap van. The 8' clearance is to let the ramp down and wheel out a wheelchair.

But if the handicap person isn't in the vehicle then to heck with respecting how close they park to others.  hahaha

I bet you it was a handicap van, didn't even think of that.
