So this is Xmas, and what have you done?

My cottage is full of packing boxes/rolls of tape/marking pens.  But it is Xmas,
after all & wouldn't be the same without baking something delicious.  Two weeks ago
I picked the last 200 ripe Meyer lemons off my tree---so yesterday I began making
old fashioned lemon meringue pies to drop off at the local food banks' Xmas dinner.

Today my one still-remaining visiting RV couple is helping me nicely toast the peaks
of the merange topping with a small propane torch!  Just too many pies to get this
done in the oven.  I've made a dozen or so.

The real challenge comes early tomorrow, when we must figure out HOW to transport
these beauties one hour over winding road to the Coast/Food Bank.  Rob has an idea
to fabricate a sort of pie holder from big slabs of cardboard with dividers.
It remains to be seen!

Kitchen here pretty much already packed up, so looks like Lemon Meringue pie for
Xmas dinner.

 to all of you,
Charlotte

Sounds like a very pleasant Christmas Time where you are, Charlotte :) All the best to you all and Merry Christmas

Lemon meringue, brings back childhood memories. Yummy.
Mine involves cherry cheesecake, no bake kind with cream cheese and dream whip.
Aannndddd, a to die for, Maple syrup cream pie. Wicked indulgence for those with a sweet tooth.
I think I will slip into an exquisite diabetic coma and die with a smile on my face after. :D
Come on, get happy!

Charlotte, pass one of those pies my way. Your place sounds idyllic. I'd love to see photos one day. How many and type of animals are you currently feeding?

Merry Xmas Camm!
Hope you're well & all settled in wherever you are.  'Tis chilly here
with a few rain drops.  What chaos this is, packing up!  As to farm
animals, most are sold/gone, my three milking does last to go.  Sad...
Still have half a dozen laying hens & my coonhound.

Having years ago adopted a rural life, have not needed/wanted to keep
up with technology.  Last photos I took were years ago, with an SLR---
I even had a darkroom & now must come to terms with letting enlarger &
related gear go...I find life more satisfying without the things most
others consider necessary.  Only reason I've got internet is to peruse
up date info re real estate before relocation.  Too, this forum invaluable to me
while learning about vintage trucks.

My little farm is gorgeous but fire danger here just too much to bear.
I hope to get place sold before another disaster strikes.  Hope you are
enjoying the holiday.  Perhaps we will meet one day, for it would be fun
to talk about South America.

Cheers, wish I could save a bit of pie for you~

Dream Whip!  At least if I end up slipping into a coma after so much Xmas pie
MY coma will be organic, LOL. :p
Love cheesecake!  I make a mean NY style cream cheese type with fresh picked
rasberries in season.  Any excuse will do.

Merry Xmas. ;)

I don't think I know your plans Charlotte. You are going to get a truck and camper? Any idea of when you'll get to launch?

We are in Quartzsite right now at one of the LTVAs. We paid for a couple of weeks. Figure it was cheaper to stay here than paying for a dump station and water a couple times a week. It's way cleaner than Ehrenberg also - we did stay there for a few days. Much more entertaining here also as there are all kinds of activities if you want or just kick back and relax if you don't. I do like to explore the town flea markets.

Camm, must ring off for now.  I've got PM, so dial me into yours and when time permits
will fill you in.  No, not getting a truck camper.   Not going to give up homesteading...
Later, have fun, don't overindulge...
