I'm having a harder time than I thought letting go of the structure I endured for the last several years. My life, like most working stiffs was so regimented for so long I really did'nt have to make to many decisions.

Now that I've bought myself a little freedom...just looking for a few more ideas from the seasoned warm weather winter travelers out there.

I've heard mention of The Slabs, Yuma, Baja...where else are people goin' after the RTR?

I'll probably head back to Ehrenberg for a few days after here and then spin the wheel.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Lots of talk of Joshua Tree also. Some people talking about South Texas.

I'm beginning to think my trajectory will be Grand Canyon > Vegas > Slabs > J Tree > San Diego, then north as it gets warmer.

TMG - you might want to switch your destinations around a bit. The Grand Canyon will still be cold well into February http://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/weather-condition.htm#CP_JUMP_2170839
I'm sure that it's beautiful with snow on the rock just be prepared for the weather.

We're not sure where we'll go next - maybe along the border either west into California or east in Arizona.

Yeah , ditto.
The GC will be real cold , my last trip was in early March and yes, the snow on the rocks was nice but........and the North Rim will still be closed.
Maybe try Death Valley NP. I loved the winter weather there and so many cool places to see.

A very popular place in Arizona is Ajo which is just north of Organ Pipe National Monument which is a stunning and beautiful part of the AZ desert. Great place to boondock.

Also, Tuscon is beautiful with Saguaro NP and the Desert Bontanical Gardens. It also has great BLM camping very close to town.

I missed Tuscon last time, it's at the end of October. But you may have been meaning to refer to Tucson instead of the SF convention. :)

I'll head back to the California desert, doing my shopping runs to Yuma. The area near Tumco BLM ghost town is one I like. (But not as isolated as what will probably be my first stop.)

Yuma (I'm here, now) Salton Sea, Anza Borrego, San Diego, Laguna Beach then dr.

Back to Q after Dr. Then south to Padre Island and east along the gulf shore.

For a girl who couldn't make a plan, I sure have one now. Plans .... Pffffft!!!

I'm still down by the river in Ehrenberg waiting for the sun to bring some warmth... how's Yuma this morning?

OPMan,

The good news is that it would be hard to make a wrong choice. The better news is that, if you don't like the place you picked, you can leave and try the next on your list! The only downside is perhaps wasting some gas?

If I were still out there and able to stay for a while, I'd start with a couple of the national monuments or parks mentioned. There are reasons that those places have been set aside and protected -- beauty and uniqueness!

Low this morning was 54F. High was about 72. Perfection!

I was headed to the Roadrunner BLM, in Q, and found myself in Yuma. Meant to stay close to Q until Monday
