cold weather is just around the corner and a lot of people will be using these to keep warm. the base that comes with these is not very staple as they are top heavy and it is just a mater of time before someone turns one over and burns their van up.  Their is a  way to make a moor stable base . Take a peace of 4 in pvc about 4 or 5in long. Cut a plug to go on the inside of pvc and secure with screws through the side. This will create a cup that the 1# tank will fit inside of. Now find were you want  to put your stove or heater and get another peace of wood should be at least 12 in or bigger. this can be any shape to fit your needs. square, round, u shape, now take the cup and screw it to the peace of wood and put tank into pvc cup and it will now be secure and not turn over. you can make several of the cups and mount them on a board to secure tanks in van. I have one with four under my sink to carry full and empty ones and they are secure no moving around while driving.

That is a nice way to hold the bottles upright in your cabinet and keep them from falling over and rolling around.

I have had one of the screw onto the bottle type of stove tops and agree that they are rather hazardous, especially since I can be clumsy when I first wake up in the morning. So I decided against that style of propane stove for full time travel and went with one that the stove sits on the counter and a hose goes over to the green bottle. Of course that decision was also influenced by two other factors, indoors in my rig the ceiling is to low to use that style of cook top and outside it is too tall and not easy to put a wind shield around the burner flame.
