Does anyone here have a safe or other form of lock box in your van? Do you wish you did?

If you have one, how large? What sort of things do you keep in it?

I could see keeping some emergency cash locked up. And there would be times I'd want to lock up computer, video and photo gear when I'm away from the van and don't want to schlep it all with me.

It seems like an old style dial would be better than a push button lock. No need to worry about power for it.

What do all y'all think?

keep truck papers, cash, pistol, i.d., spare cell phone, etc.

wear key around neck and have one fastened under vehicle concealed ....

blkjak ....

I've thought about it. Want a small lockbox to bolt to the floor, to carry checkbook, pistol, spare cash. Not adverse to the type that opens with fingerprint, just have to change battery regularly.

I have several. Some concealed and bolted down in places inconvenient to get to; difficult to find. Some closer at hand for quick acces: portable to transfer between camper and truck.

I think I've found the solution to locking up my photo and video equipment, with room for other things. There are footlocker-sized "job boxes" made of heavy steel. They have double locks and could be bolted or welded to the van floor or chained to something. The least expensive (that I've found) and probably easiest to get are sold by Home Depot.

This is an interesting subject. If you're going to keep camera gear and computers in it, you might consider insulating it. I know cameras and PC's are heat sensitive.
-Bruce

My van would be insulated, so it might be redundant to insulate the box. I'd at least do some padding.

(Hmmmm, a decent sized cooler could fit in there...)

I use a "gang box" for securing my valuables. I use it manly as a clothing dresser/chest as I built dividers inside it. The lock is recessed so cutting the shank is impossible. I use a 4 digit combination master lock, the reason being standard locks are easy to pick or drill out. The box makes a perfect kitchen counter for prepping and cooking meals or as a work bench.

https://vanlivingforum.com/post/My-2003-E150-Conv.-van-5918654

Interesting topic. I don't trust banks myself. not that I have any money but I just don't. Don't trust government either for that matter.
I have a small lock box but it could be made off with very easily. I'm thinking of using envelopes under cabinets. I'll also use my savings account and just transfer money into checking when needed. I hate writing checks or using my debit card and don't carry either. I suppose once I'm full time and on the road I'll have to.
Looking forward to more information on this topic.

I've got a safe from a buddy who did remodel jobs and came up with 5 dropbox safe which I bought 1 for 150.00,, it has dual key locks with a master and 3 employee keys,, pretty nice, can use drop box to drop anything pretty much when in a hurry and have it bolted to floor of cargo camper with cabinets built around it so its not seen !
