Was just reading online with the Volunteer opportunities for the National Parks & Forest service.

At a National Wildlife Refuge near the border with South Carolina - North Carolina there are volunteer opportunities for 25 hours per week, that give you a RV pad, electric, sewer, water. The work looks like interesting easy work.

Not a bad way to live, with electric.

Am sure there are lots of opportunities like this nationwide. Weather is good here now.

did not mention that these sites want a three month committment from you.

just looking at the math 25 hours times $5 hour (less than minimum wage) is $125 per week, or $500 per month.

Are those sites in a National Wildlife Refuge worth $500 per month? Can you get work outside with some other business that will pay you more than this, after commuting expenses?

If you view volunteering as "a job" and then "do the math", it is hard to justify volunteering over working usually. But if you truly view it as being a volunteer and something you would do for free without pay and see the RV pad, etc. as just an added perk, then it can be a very pleasant time. Three months is a little long for me.
