Zofchak..... this sanding pen. You use it on the little nicks and door dings even if you see no rust? Then seal with a primer? Or just get the body paint and touch it up. (if that is possible)
I have read this post over and over. I would like to get at the little dings and prevent some thing going to a worse scenario.
I do have some rust on the rack of my van. The wrong bolts were used in some of the connections and there is a bit of rust started there so I want to prevent some thing worse up there too.

Brass is better to sand with than the steel wool? and finger nail polish can seal good enough to prevent rust?

Thanks this is a good post.

Yes, they can be used on small stone chips even if there is no rust involved. You really don't need to prime small spots at all, just lightly hit them with the brush, a Q-tip with some lacquer thinner and then touch them up with matching paint. On stone chips the edge of the existing paint will act like a wall to hold the touch up paint (you can get matching touch up paint in bottles just like little bottle of nail polish). The sanding brush is really just used to make sure the surface is solid, clean of debris and slightly textured to hold the paint (SO try not to hit the paint around the chip). The paint will shrink a bit when it dries, so you want to leave a bit of a "bump" of paint, but avoid getting the paint onto the existing paint surrounding the chip. if you want to get really fussy when it dries you can take some 1500 grit wet sand paper and then some rubbing compound and get it to a point where you won't even be able to see the spot (Then again we're talking about vans, not Corvettes .)

Thank you ZOFCHAK. I am doing a cut and paste into my car folder so I can just print it out and take your information with me to the store.

I use:

50/50 mix white vineager and distilled water

Red scotch bright.

Spray on mixture, let soak for up to 1/2 hour, scrub with scotch bright.

I use that for most rust removal on car bodies.

scotch brite's like the green ones they sell for household use, you can get different grades(abrasion). the colors's differ as to the grades. highdesertranger
