Does anyone have experience doing this or know of someone who has? What would it take to make it work?

I'm not in customer service exactly but I do work remotely. For me, it works in the van as it does in my home office. Dedicated workspace is key.
Good cellular internet service helps too. I have a DC powered LED TV/DVD combo that is set up as an external monitor.

The two people I know that work remotely while traveling have 3 things:
1 - data plans with 3 different carriers
2 - cell signal boosters
3 - always park where they have good signal from at least 2 carriers.

If your job requires you to be connected you have to gather resources to ensure you are always connected.

https://www.rvmobileinternet.comis a good resource.

I hear that PDA net and Foxfire apps are your friends. I've added these apps but have not yet tried them out. They are supposed to allow you to use your unlimited data plan with full speed tethering. Like, if your data plan slows down tethered device speed after a certain amount of data used, this bypasses this.

The big issue is getting a fast enogh connection. In the popular areas for boondocking in the southwest strength can be good but speed much too slow for working online if you have to work with customers via a companies website.

Most of all, watch out for scams. Last week I received a message from a Facebook person who posted a link to what she said was Conduent. Conduent is a reputable firm that I'm familiar with. The warning sign was that the interview would take place on Telegram. All went well, I passed the interview, and then the questions began about my banking. I disconnected and called Conduent, who assured me they do "not ever use Telegram or any outside communications method to conduct interviews.

Beware!!

I know that often they want you to have a fiber or cable connection for many of these jobs. Was just looking at some today. They said no cellular and they prefer a hardwired connection to PC. Hope you can find a position though that works for you. Starlink if it fits in the budget is an option too.

My wife works remotely, and has been able to do so while camping (while I took the kids hiking, foraging or paddling. The trick is to camp in places with decent cell coverage.
