Quick question. I just finished cutting out reflective insulation for the windows in my van. My van does have tint on the windows. However, when the reflective insulation is in the windows, it is easily identified even with the tint.

Does anyone have any ideas what to use to cover up the metalic reflective material on the window side? I had the idea of using black duct tape to cover up one side of the insulation in the window. What is your experience with this?

I think i remember reading someone using that black fabric material you put in gardens to cover it, but i would imagine any black cloth would work.

I used a cheap black sheet and spray adhesive on mine since my windows don't have tint.

I just used a cheap can of black spray paint. Allow to vent off fumes well before installing

Thanks gang. Those are some good ideas. I'll be taking some pictures to post soon. I'm please with the progress. However, as I live and travel in it, I can already see changes I want to make.

I have a standing request with my neighbors who buy large things with cardboard boxes whose uncreased sides are larger than my windows.

I'd cut it to a tight fit, paint the one side black, seal the edges and attach the reflectix to the interior side, and have my curtains cover that.

I used the black weed control fabric to cover my reflectix. It is really inexpensive. Comes in really long wide rolls. I just rough cut it five or six inches bigger than it needed to be on all sides to cover the reflectix and then folded it over and duct taped it on the back side. It is kind of thin, so it takes about two layers to do a good job. Even with a flash light shined directly at it at night, you can't see any reflection at all from the reflectix. Just looks black. I have some pictures in my E350 build thread if you'd like to see how it was done.

It never occurred to me to cover the outside-side of my reflectix window covers. But then i've never tried to go stealth since the van is way beyond invisible They know i'm camping in there!

One thing i've noticed is i need to take the reflectix out of the windows by the latest mid-morning since i've seen our DIY window tint get bubbles due to heat buildup between the glass and reflectix.
