Hi Lesa! Glad you're doing good. I've been reading your blog posts. It sounds like you've been finding some great camping spots and good company too!

I've traveled Central America for 20+ years on land voyages. Lived in Barrio Las Americas Moravia, a barrio of San Jose, Costa Rica in 1994-1995. Be careful in Nicaragua, there's a lot of Dengue fever down there, I caught it in 1995 and almost died from it.

It is truly beautiful in C. America though.

Had dengue and malaria together while volunteering at a mountain top project.in CR .hike in an hour uphill - they took a shovel up and decided where to plant me before I just got better. ..then sick again though not so bad...that pattern continued until I returned to the US and was taken to the Bangor Maine ER!

Partially, yes. The extreme weather lends itself to create a host of other problems, especially if you're not adequately prepared to fend for yourself. If you're not this can have the unintended consequence of putting you at the mercy of some potentially unfavorable types. More so if you're a woman. The fall, winter, and spring are much better for the weather and sheer number of people around.

I'm not trying to give you the wrong idea about the place. I never felt unsafe while I was there and even enjoyed my visits. I'm doing my best to make perfectly clear what the conditions are like. I've got plans to spend winter (part or in whole even) there.

The LoWs have a chapter there, and are a great group to fall in with when visiting. This is how my friend came to be there and learned about the place. http://www.lonersonwheels.com

My first summer in the High desert I swam in a pool all day and ended up with my hide blistering and pealing off. I was just 18,and could take it back then. Never again.Spent 3 days in bed. The elements are what they are. RESPECT, yourself, the Elements and others if they will permit you too. I learned that in another life I guess. It was a long time ago but I still kinda remember it ,faintly now.Been a long time Yep.
