1 Radio News is an app for Android with radio news from around the world. This app reminds when I use to be able to listen to a shortwave radio to hear the news. Only this is better, because there's more stations and it's digital so no static. There's a free version (with ads) that functions the same as the paid (which I just did), with hourly updates or full news broadcasts.

Great if you want to hear news that the main stream isn't covering,,, in English.

Just bought HOURLY NEWS app for $.99 on Apple store. It seems to fit the bill. Make sure you turn off in app purchases in your master settings. Some of the subscriptions cost money, and the app sneaks that on you without being clear you could be charged for that.

I have an iPhone, and the Hourly News app a well. Is's great for the headlines from around the world, I like listening to it while getting ready for bed. But if there's something the same as 1 Radio for iPhone, I can't find it.

For my iPhone I installed the BBC and NPR app. The NPR app allows you to listen to different streaming NPR stations around the country. The BBC app allows to to steam out of London, and both allow you to read the news. Both are free with no ads.

Also if you go to the "Music" icon at the bottom of your iPhone, you can set-up a NPR stream as well. It's a national stream so you won't get local news and weather in what ever area you're in, but you don't have to install anything to listen. However there are ads.

The BBC used to broadcast shortwave out of the Bahamas to the U.S. years ago, but they shut the transmitter down, siting you can listen over the Internet.

Hope that helps

I listen to the BBC for world news 2x/day and get hourly US news from NPR both are under iTunes and no cost. I also subscribe to many other iTunes podcasts that I enjoy.
