I'm thinking of getting a Promaster (high roof most likely), but am worried about stealth, my fear being it has none and really stands out... what do you think?

I don't think that's true - I think a Promaster is a very stealthy option.

Some people debate the stealthyness of cargo vans and in a purely residential area that may be true. But in any sort of mixed urban/commercial area, industrial area, etc, cargo vans blend in perfectly, and I don't think they stand out in most residential areas either.

If I'm still living the vehicle life the day my '99 Dodge Class B needs replacing, I think I will be looking seriously at Promasters.

A Promaster will be as stealthy as anything of that size. They're becoming more and more common and the fact that it's new makes it less suspicious to many people.

You're noticing them because cargo vans are on your mind. To most people cargo vans blend into the background.

In cities cargo vans are about the lowest thing on the stealth scale.

As for the Promasters, I think they're still a little too new, therefore they would stick out even worse. Even the Sprinters still stick out.

Ladder rack with ladder on it may help...

Cargo vans not stealthy? That is dead wrong. You are once again giving horrible advice!

Some people learn from the successes and failures of others.

Some people have to learn the hard way.

One day perhaps you will learn.  Until you have experienced life from both types of vehicles, you will never fully understand.  I've had all of them over the years...

If you would have paid attention to that 'horrible advice' about not using plywood under your bed, you wouldn't have had to drill holes in yours...  How did we know?  We've been there and done that, and figured out the solutions.

Dude, gimme a break. You are saying cargo vans are the lowest stealth scale. That means you think a Class A or C is more stealthy. Thats what you typed. Maybe that's not what you meant.

As to my bed, I have no regrets. It works great with no mold issues. BTW, I picked up the idea of drilling the holes from another experienced vandwelller.

I am going to keep calling you out when you give bad advice. Otherwise, someone who doesnt know your posting history might actually follow it.

IMO I think the PM will be fine for stealth. Here on the Oregon coast they are rare, but see one parked in a shopping area lot or near any sort of industrial/business and the owner could be snoozing inside and nobody would really know. As a poster said, you are looking at purchasing a PM so naturally you are noticing them.

As a tangent, but since somebody mentioned beds and solutions to mold...
my wife and I installed a Froli-Sleep System in our van and it is amazing.

Snap together the parts on your plywood platform:

with all parts in place... just put your topper pad on top or a thin futon mattress.
Under those blue square thingies is about 3 inches of air flow.

Then rest peacefully. Five years and no mold or mildew.

Where did you buy the Froli-Sleep System? Looks like a fantastic solution!

MODERAToRS NOTE: Folks, as a gentle reminder, when you reply to a quote, delete everything that is not necessary. There are lots of people with very limited data that don't need to see a hole bunch of pictures again.

I deleted them here and only left what was necessary for the new post to make sense. Bob

Greetings,

We ordered our Froli(s) from this online shop out of SC :

Nice folks and quick response.
Not cheap, but somewhere I mentioned that after our maiden voyage in the van+froli my wife asked me to order one for our full time bed. And we will have one in every rig we build. That nice for us.

Yes on the build thread...but it includes the whole van. The bed is mentioned on page 3.

hope that helps.
