How much battery are you looking to recharge?

How much time will you have to recharge?

Typically marine chargers cost a premium for the splash proof certification.

I gave up trying to find an Automatic charger which could fit all my battery needs. I went with a 500 watt adjustable voltage switching power supply.

It can provide 600 watts, or 41 amps at any voltage between 19.23v and 13.12v.

But it is a manual charger. I either set it at float voltage for when I have a lot of time to charge, or crank it up to 14.9v to minimize charge times. Leaving it at 14.9v for too long will overcharge the battery.

16v equalization sessions are easily accomplished as well.

I do not trust any automatic charger to do the job which it claims to do. Most flash the full charge indicator very prematurely, and drop to float voltage.

Float will eventually, in many cases, fully charge a battery, but it might take a week or longer.

Recently, I took 65 AH from my flooded battery, set my MeanWell and Solar to 13.6v, and 5 days later the specific gravity was only 1.270. Maximum SG on this battery is 1.285. 2 hours at 15.3v at that point got it to 1.280. Usually 16v is required to get this battery to 1.285 or higher.

Since no automatic charger is actually taking specific gravity readings, they are basically guessing as to when the battery has spent enough time at absorption voltages.

I actually looked at that same unit earlier today and it was a contender, I just hadn't made up my mind that I'm totally comfortable doing the manual routine. But you mentioned something I hadn't really thought of and that was a timer on the line! With a $8.00 digital timer I could be assured it would be turned off if for some reason I didn't.

I'll look further into this option then. Thanks,.

Yeah, I've yet to add the timer myself.

Another contender, which are a bit cheaper are the Megawatt power supplies.

I don't fear charging a battery quickly at high amp rates. My AGM battery demands high recharge rates and responds well to them.
My Meanwell RSP-500-15 covers all my needs, even though 41 amps is a much higher than 'recommended' charge rate on my flooded 31.

Right now, I am 23 amp hours from full. A few hours ago, I set it at 13.4v and plugged int into the battery. 41 amps tapered to under 10 quickly, and now it is sending 1.9 amps into the flooded 31 while powering my TV, fridge, laptop, and lights.

Many automatic chargers cannot handle powering loads while also charging the battery.
RV converters can both 3 stage charge batteries and power loads, but they are a one size fits all charging algorithm, which is too much of a compromise for me.

My MW power supply might be fully Manual, but it can do everything I want in a battery charger.

I just finished reading the 11 pages on the other forum where you talked about this PS in detail.

Take care, time for some shut eye and hopefully in my case the dogs next door stay quiet, I think I'd rather have the Screech a Keet LOL, inside joke. I'll tell ya some day.
