I saw an ad for a van that has plastic wall protectors... hadn't seen that before. Is it good for insulating a van, both for temperature and for noise? Or not so good if condensation can get behind it?

Neither, just protective of the paneling and aesthetic.

If it were possible to fully fill the gap with poured/sprayed foam without exerting pressure one either surface then adding a mylar vapour barrier. . .

Stiff board foam would be easier, but I suspect the gap is too thin in many spots.

Those liner kits can add value to the van, they were an optional upgrade.

The also make it easier to install fiberglass batting if you wish to.

Plus the E-tracks on the walls will make it easy to add a bed or cabinets. You can buy all kinds of connectors for them.

I used them in my van they cost $600. I used 1 in Styrofoam with aluminum on both sides and I am happy with it.
