One thing about staying or visiting larger cities is difficulties with parking. Height is one thing that can cause problems. I have a standard cargo van. Never had any real trouble parking it until I put a vent on top that added 4 inches to the height. Now after scraping the vent going into a couple parking garages, I have to read the height limit. I don't know how you guys with raised tops do it. So many places do not provide alternative parking close by either. Here in southern CA sometimes all you can find are parking garages where you need to go (airports, theme parks, downtowns, popular beaches, etc.). Glad I don't have a RV at those times!

My hi-top simply will not go into one of the parking garages, so I most likely would end up parking blocks away at an open-air parking lot. Mostly, I do not go into large metro areas in the van anyway so it rarely comes up.

I did have one problem where a museum I wanted to go too was in a town with very limited parking, and all were garage-style. After driving around for 30 minutes, I gave up and left the city. It sucks, but I'd rather have the extra head room and miss out on a few museums.

I have handicap tags........on the coach and my truck , works out well!!

I've got a handicap sticker too, but it doesn't change your height and clearance in a garage :p
We've got a lot of tire under us and we're about at a little over 7'. Many parking garages top out about there.

I never park in garages....to many problems in there!

I figure if you cant keep at least 1 foot of clearance you shouldnt go in period.....all it takes is a low pipe, drooped wire or an off camber ramp and stiff suspension or a bump and you have a serious problem..

I use the same principal with bridges and side streets with my coach.....

I used to have a customized E-250 Ford van for my shop truck.

It had a roof vent, and a row of 6 progressively taller antennas that ran down the center. (I had radios, CB's, Cel Phone (back when these needed external antennas), and Sideband antennas up there.)

My wife's best friend was having a baby several towns over, and in her rush to make it there on time for the delivery, didn't notice the height restriction posted in the hospital's parking garage's entry ramp.

Yep, you guessed it.....cleaned all that stuff right off!! :(

I am in total agreement with you. The extra length and height is far more valuable than the ability to sometimes park in height restricted structures. Hell, I'd rather park under the stars any day than in a structure!

My high top is the bomb and you couldn't get me in anything smaller.
