Has anyone had experience parking at a Park and Ride lot? You probably could not get by with obvious camping but it seems to me that stealth parking here would be easy. Since these locations are intended to be used by commuters that carpool into a large city, it would be normal for vehicles to be parked for an extended period of time. It would also be normal for people to use reflective sunshades.

Park & Ride at Exit 8 on I24. Lat/Long N36° 33' 24.228" W87° 14' 56.3994” Sign at entrance reads, “No tractor/trailer permitted Commuter Parking Only”. In both the Google satellite and street views you can see trailers parked on the gravel area at the back of the lot. This is located on the state right of way between the north and southbound lanes.

Park & Ride at Exit 11 on I24 north of Nashville, Tn. Lat/Long N36° 31' 27.4794" W87° 13' 22.9074" There is no street view in Google but in the satellite view there is no room for semi’s. This is located on the state right of way on the west side of the interstate, behind the BP station.
Park & Ride at Exit 64 on I24 south of Nashville, Tn. Lat/Long N 35° 59' 40.0554" W 86° 35' 50.424". This is located on the state right of way on the west side of the interstate, on Paul Rd. behind the Mapco station.

I would think that other large cities would have the same type lots located along interstates feeding them.

I've used a few in NY state while visiting relatives. Always "stealth" local leos cruise through at night. They sweep all vehicles with the spot light. I've always been lucky even with out of state plates. Other states may be different.
I'm always more wary of locals ripping off vehicle parts than get'n checked out by the police.

hey folks new member here had to chime in on this one. one night i was heading home to orange county i was really tired. got off the i5 north of los angeles in nehall found a park and ride got in the camper and went straight to sleep. couple of hours later there was pounding on the side of the camper half asleep i said what. i heard police come out. i did. after the usual questions are you drunk an drugs what are you doing here. i told them i had been driving for several hours and just couldn't go anymore. they told me i was not allowed to sleep at a park and ride and read off some law. then they told me a place a short distance away were the truckers park to catch some zees. the police were very nice once they saw i was not a lowlife. so as far as i know in kalifornia its a no no. highdesertranger

N.ow I am only talking for a night maybe two... If in a city that is on the coast, look to the boat launches and if asked why you are there just explain you are waiting for friends to return and give them a ride... If in a city find a middle of the road motel/hotel and go to the back lot to overnight, of course truck stops and rest stops are best... Trick is to blend in and not bringing attention to yourself...

the park & ride areas where i used to work had those 'no detatched trailer' signs too...i checked with the hwy maintenance folks, and they said they referred specifically to loaded semi trailers, because the lot was not built for heavy vehicles to park in and it damaged the paving. lots of folks camped in them for a night or two without problems. just had to be discreet so there would be no 'disorderly' complaints.

When I was a security supervisor we would hand off the car on the LIE park & rides --- heavily patrolled for the drug dealers and parkway prostitute's

So your not allowed to park in a public parking lot for the purpose of parking?

I see this is old other than the few more recent ones, but just thought I'd chime in that in Michigan any MDOT car pool parking lots you can stay for 14 days. Even blatant RVing. I read this online and then earlier this year saw a Class A with a toad utilize a very popular area (on a busy road with plenty of law enforcement traffic going by) for almost an entire month. They did disappear for a few days in between their stay.

This has been my overnight parking plan if I get my van ready for living before I'm ready to leave my current job. Plenty of carpool lots by my work.
