Rent you a truck or use a friends to tow your trailer to weigh it and try some hills. Put the scooter and anything else in the bed of the truck you might take with you on the road. Take a look at tntt trailers site for foamies maybe get some ideas there for standup topper or camper but put any ideas on a sheet of paper as a list of needs and costs, see what works. I've done this 5 or 6 times now and as my money situation changes so does my camping/living mode but in the end it's all been good but could always get better!

I am indeed
Doesn't help I think the ranger is leaking coolant at the head gasket
Not really wanting to do that job
ranger would pull it as far as the nearest scales

I think Home Depot or Lowes will rent a truck for $19 for a day or used to and that would let you know for sure if the half ton would work for you.

Ok, dodged a bullet here, it turns out my dtore manager recently owned a 1999 2500 Suburban for a number of years and a few maintenance issues
Good solid reliable truck, he says, but when I told him about the top gear jerking at 50-55, he said
Run away, that's $1500 looking you in the eye
He's not a pro wrench, but he's no tyrro when it comes to fixing his own vehicles, so I called off the buy

My immediate supervisor actually provided a sort of off hand clarifying remark, too
You better be sure that trucks in good shape, if it breaks down off in the back of beyond, and you've got your TT with you, you've got no place to live
Of course I still have the old TT,. but I put myself $15k in the whole to NOT live in it lol
I am, at this time, living stationary, and risking the loss of my dwelling by dragging it across the country with a truck whose reliability I'm not sure of would be stoopid

I need to be realistic that I'm not going nomad any time soon
The only reason I'd need to move this TT untill then would be to reposition it on my land, or maybe haul it to an RV wash
Hell, I could probably do that with a UHaul
I am at best a week tripper, and I have time to look for the right vehicle
