Hi gang. I had the opportunity to go camping in the mountains about a month ago, I had a great time but at the same time I realized that's the last time I go tent camping LOL. Wind was bad, picked up the tent (owner didn't want to stake it even tho I thought it would be a good idea  ) It was cold, he even slept in his truck to avoid the wind. I have been watching ALOT of videos. I currently have a pt cruiser that I think Im going to sell (too small to camp in....I have done it lol) Am I rich not by a long shot.  so I don't want to invest a lot of cash...with the use of a loan possibly I think 5000.00. This van wouldn't even really be a daily driver, the wife and I  have another vehicle that we use to and from work. I may drive the van 50 miles a week during the summer (she doesn't work during the summer). So with the mileage to and from work and the vacations I don't think the van would see more than 2000 miles a year. my plan for the inside would be a bench bed that pulls to a bed from side to side of the van and then a cabinet with a sink and area for food prep (no cooking inside). I don't want a pantry at the back door on the outside I want all enclosed. The cabinet I figured I could make out of insulation and 1/8 plywood like I have seen online. Depending on what I get would determine if it would be worth putting insulation and flooring in...most likely flooring as I wouldn't want the metal floor if it was the cargo. What are your suggestions? Im thinking I would want to go with a timing chain vs belt. thanks

Welcome to the CRVL forums papa-d! Vans are great for vacations. Once you have a basic build all you need to do is throw in some food and a few supplies and you're ready to go!

I would go to tnttt.com and look at the foamie section. Why buy a vehicle and have to deal with all the expenses and maintenance when most of the time it will sit? A camper can be made really lite if not living in it with utilites, lite enough to be pulled by almost any vehicle.
