I seen a video where a guy was turned down for a work camp gig because he did not have holding tanks or on board shower. I did a google on the subject and only came up with one website (http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f91/full-time-rv-hopeful-65368.html) that addressed the issue. I'm not positive but I think the website may be Canadian so I don't know if the rules are the same in America. Can someone tell me if that is so in America?

If you do have to have holding tanks and an on board shower in order to work camp in America, what are the specifications to pass? Presumably a bucket and a shower tent outdoors or a shower curtain over a tub in your rig won't fly.

Available showers and bathrooms are usually a selling point for work camping jobs in the states. People are needed.

Are you saying that camps with available showers and bathrooms are usually  a selling point to the work campers? I'm asking if the work camper has to supply their own bath and toilet via holding tanks. If so: is that across the US & what are the specifications, i.e. jerry rigged vs. professional?

I don't know every camp with hosts. But could it be that camp did not have showers available? Requiring "bring your own". If you are required to have holding tanks and shower, jury rigged will surly be forbidden.

Only apply for jobs that have showers and bathrooms available.

Leave the other ones for those with a self contained unit.

They may require that you have working bathroom facilities in case the campground bathhouse is closed for repairs. I have stayed (not work kamped as I don't do that) in a campground that did not have a bathhouse. Also my current park has had the bathhouse closed several times since I have been here. Longest time was almost a week as it was winter and not only did the pipes in the campground bathhouse freeze and burst but a great deal of Roswell did as well. The plumbers were all working long days. I have noticed a trend where many campgrounds are either not building bathhouses or not repairing/closing down the existing bathhouses. If you stop and realize that most, if not all, RV's are self contained, I can see their point.

This varies by the position. I've had coworkers (in another campground) with a tent, and seen ads for positions that require a newer RV with photo to apply. As a loose rule, the more isolated the campground the harder the postion is to fill and the less the management will care what you have as long as it fits in.

There is no one answer, I worked as a campground host for 4 years and I don't have any tanks, hot water, shower or toilet.

There are many jobs you can't get without them, but there are still plenty of jobs you can get. Like Blars said, it's usually the more remote and primitive campgrounds because the RVers won't go there. In the High Sierras we had hosts who lived in tents and in pop-up trailers.
