It is fact. The outlets influence by a much greater margin by what they don't report than what they do. NPR, BBC, the majors are all extremely slanted news. I'm curious did any of these sources inform you of recent wiki details?

Yes, they did.

This article shows the news outlets most people can generally agree on are the BBC, the Economist, NPR, and the Wall Street Journal.  It sounds like a great place to start.
Note: the Economist is a magazine rather than broadcast, but they do have excellent podcasts.

I'm getting old so I have a little time on my hands and have decided to live where most people come to get away from news, radio, and tv, very little internet and cell phone service so I have to choose to let them into my life. I do enjoy researching local history because usually I get to see the outcomes of what peoples actions resulted in, a complete story, unlike trying to worry about or figure out what is gonna happen by watching today's "news". Life is much more enjoyable visiting people around you and hearing their "news" and talking about issues in a common sense way than letting a group determine what you should know.

History is written by the victors.    Winston Churchill

People everywhere confuse what they read in newspapers with news. A. J. Liebling

The rise of a ubiquitous Internet, along with 24-hour news channels has, in some sense, had the opposite effect from what many might have hoped such free and open access to information would have had. It has instead provided free and open access, without the traditional media filters, to a barrage of disinformation. Lawrence M. Krauss

I use Twitter..... Before you laugh...i ONLY follow BBC, AP, Fox and CNN. I get the "what's going on" without all the commentary. Quick and easy read when you only follow 4 posters. If something strikes my fancy I'll research it more.

That actually sounds like a good idea, because that's what I want, just the facts, no opinion

My main source of news is my pickup truck radio.  I listen mainly to FM country/blues/cajun/vintage rock stations, so whatever newscasts I happen to hear while out road runnin'.    Or someone tells me.   I "hear" more news here than anywhere else.

 I'm a worrier and a crier.  Sad/bad/tragic/mean spirited/evil things/news can really wind me up   :s :(  :-/
A long time ago I decided that by the time something is on the news it's to late for any of my actions to change things even if I wanted to.  Friends and family keep me informed and fairly up to date.....mostly. They know what my interests are so they keep a eye on the news  for me.  Whoops I forgot that I check the weather daily on the internet.

I usually look out a window to see the weather..................................100% accurate

Though I get most of my "news" online, it is my observation and opinion that the worldwide proliferation of online connection has resulted in "entertainment" and "personal interest" info being raised to "frontpage" status, bias and prejudice brought to the forefront, and real news reduced to mere soundbites and flash messages.
Our local newspapers are mere shadows of what they once were, and TV news is hopelessly biased.
It is very hard these days to get " the rest of the story".
