Hello All. My name is Claudia and I just purchased my very first Rv. She is a 1986 Ford Honey. ( Hence the name RvHoney :shy: ) I have never been in a rv before but look forward to going full time soon. My big question: Is there a rv park where I can go spend a few days and have someone help me start the process of using my rv? I have not turned anything on yet. Been busy making some modifications inside and last thing will be purchasing a generator later this week. I am in florida. I'm probably making a big deal out of it yet I will feel more comfortable learning with someone who has rv knowledge and don't mind sharing it. Please let me know.

A lot depends on your location. Escapee's club has boot camp as well as monthly get togethers in most cities. You should consider joining and meet up with people just like you and get the one on help you need.

Hi Claudia, welcome to the forum. I know nothing about RV's from personal experience. Congratulations on your purchase... I hope it works out well for you.

Howdy! You are one brave lady. Talk about jumping into the deep end!

First off, join a dedicated RV forum. Most folks here are happy to help with life on the road questions, but many live in vans, vehicles, and tents, so the "OMG my black tank valve is stuck" questions will not be answered here. Join the IRV2 forum here on Tapatalk. Also join RVillage.com. Lots of experienced RVers on there.

One thing you will find is that all RVs share certain systems, but between brands there is a lot of variation as to exactly how they are configured. They are usually very simple, once you get them figured out.

I would happily help you figure out your Honey if we are anywhere close by. I'll be in Arizona as of this Wednesday. Where are you located?

One option that I would highly recommend is to make an appointment with a dealer near you to go over your unit with a fine tooth comb. There are things like the dump valves (called knife valves) that need replacing if the unit has not been in continuous use, and even if it has. The dealer can walk you through the systems and give you a cursory idea of how they work.

Ideally, the party you bought it from should spend as much time as you need to get comfortable with all the systems.

Thank you Bullfrog?. I will look into Escapees Club. It's good to hear that there are clubs out there for newbies like me.

RV gal here.
Go to any campground and ask. ALL rv'ers will help you instantly. A few, and this is very rare, will want nothing to do with ya LOL but 99.9% will help you all the way! No joke on that. We all help each other out there!

You will be absolutely fine and someone easily will tell ya how to hook up XYZ and how to handle ABC and what to do with CBY....:)
thing is you might get too much help HAha which is a great thing.

do not worry one bit. there will be someone there to pass that knowledge onto you easily, just ask my hubby, omg he would bend your ear to the max about what to 'do with an rv and how it functions' :)

you are more than good to go....I wish ya the best and let us all know how it goes down for you. The extra post about how great people where to you is fab and we all want to hear!!

Thank you Travelaround. Maybe I will make it to Idaho one day. I have a friend who lives in Blackfoot.

Hi Moxadox. Thank you for the heads up. I will look into some of the forums you recommend.?

Hi RV Gal. Those words are comforting. It's not easy not knowing who to turn to when diving into unknown territory. I am happy to hear that most nomads understand a newbies fears and offer the help. Thank you so much.

Hi Smitty716. I am in Florida. Hoping to head West as soon as I (preferably with someone) learn my new rig. I'm taking the advise of others and going to stay at an RV for a few days. Any suggestions of a good, cheap RV park in Florida?

RvHoney , in Florida I don’t think good and cheap go together ?. You can google campsites near me , and a list will come up and you can call around

I’m still not able to leave yet , Doctors said maybe by mid November. If you don’t head west till then let me know and I should know if I’m cleared

Where in Florida are you? There might be someone close but specifics would help a lot.

We have plenty of experienced RV people here that are quite capable and willing to answer your questions and provide help.

Yep, I'm an RVer. 30' Arctic Fox 5er. My 4th RV since 1997. I like to get on as many RV forums as I can, because each one has a different "flavor," and folks with different expertise tend to gravitate to different ones.
