Yesterday I drove my 2007 GMC Savana Ambulance home to WV from NC.  My intent is to turn it into my new home.  I am an artist who sells most of her work at shows and I hope to be able to continue that.  Oh!  And I'm 68y.o.!  I have a problem with hoarding when I have space but can keep a small space manageable.  I proved that to myself when I lived out of my van in '94-'96.  I've given myself two years to hit the road because money and skill for the rebuild are real issues.  I plan on selling my house.  I've named the vehicle INDY (I'm Not Dead Yet.)  That's the intro, now the question:  I remember hearing Bob Wells talk about a camp site in AZ or NM that you could pay something in the neighborhood of $300 and stay for the year.  Does anyone have the particulars on that?  I'm sure I will have many more questions as I go along and so am grateful that you are all out there.  Thanks, k8

Welcome to the forum.

The RV park you're talking about is near Ajo, AZ. Park is Coyote Howls.

Maybe you're referring to the NM State Parks pass? $180 for NM residents, $225 for non-residents for the year. I'm there now. It's a great deal! With the pass, you get dry camping plus your entrance fee, and if you want electricity it's $4/night extra.

Love INDY!

I've named mine WITH-WIT (What In The Hell Was I Thinking)   :D

Coyote Howls (which is ten miles south of Ajo, in Why) is okay from about October through March, but then it gets oppressively hot. There are only a handful who stay year round.

Why and Ajo are rather out of the way with limited resources for groceries and other supplies. However, Ajo is an arty community, including a former school turned into artist apartments.

I think the New Mexico State Parks Pass is a better choice because you can follow the weather and see more places.

Thanks!  I found Bob's playlist on rent free living.  I feel like the kid that cried before she was hurt.  If I'd looked a little harder I'd have found the answer.  What I wouldn't have found was all this warm response!
