Hi Everyone,

My name is Dave and I want to live in a Van.  Unfortunately I'm on hold. So i thought I'd just HI!!

Hi Dave, welcome.

There are millions of people in the world who have had to hit a "pause" button for the next several months time. But hopefully the time can be put to good use during the pause.

Welcome to the CRVL forums Dave! You can use this time for planning dreaming and asking questions. Most of us have a lot of time on our hands right now so we're just waiting for all of the new people to ask questions! :)

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the CRVL Forums   :)

Let me invite you to view the two links below in my signature lines.

It is a good time to be studying for when you can make the break
and the content in those two sites could benefit you considerably.

All the best !

I’m looking forward to fall. My hopes are this virus stuff settles by then. Plan to be out to see grandkids in Washington and Utah through the holidays with a trip to some rodeo in Vegas in there somewhere. Then be around for first RTR...
Right now I’m cooking sap and rebuilding a truck camper.
I hope you can hit the road sooner then later.

I live NH. I came up with the idea of vanlife over the winter. I haven't even bought a van yet. My plan was to purchase a van then build it out some all summer. Take some short trips here in NH, ME &VT. Then out west Oct or Nov. but now I'm on hold.

Let me ask a question. How far south should I go to avoid rust in a used van?

Welcome to the CRVL Forums   :)

I lived in North Carolina years ago.  Between Charlotte and Fayetteville in the "Sandhills  Area".  Sandy soil, mild winters that didn't see much or any salt    Vehicles bodies held up and looked good for some time.

But.......a 2 year old car there could have 60 to 80K miles on them depending on where the owner worked and lived.
With the lovely highways they have there and as far apart as things were,  you wouldn't have to live there long to understand.  But used cars & trucks were quite affordable.

But in this area you will generally find used vehicles have higher mileage on them.

Don't be in a huge hurry to buy if you don't have to.

I do know there will be more used vans for sale this summer because not all businesses will survive and they will have to sell their equipment.

Even the government will have to start putting more things up for auction as there will be stringent cut backs in State and Federal as well as City and County services in some of their departments.

There will be incentives to purchase new vehicles to help out the car makers and that too will increase the amount of used vans being offered for sale by the businesses that do survive and thrive such as the delivery companies, grocery stores, etc.
