Here is why.

These days I'm working at a gas station. Today a newer Taurus rolled in, driven by a sweet elderly couple. They filled, inserting the nozzle into the cap less fuel filler. The nozzle jammed. They called the Ford dealer who advised them to have someone strong yank the handle out. I did, leaving a collar from the nozzle in their fuel filler. The folks had to take the car to the Ford dealer.

I learned from Internet posts that this has happened many times, occasionally leaving people with hefty repair bills and having to be towed. One of the things that concerned me was the very narrow clearance between the inlet and the pump handle. It looked very tight!

I thought I'd share this experience with you. If I was looking at a vehicle, I'd immediately rule out anything with a cap less fuel filler. That's just my opinion... I'm a Chevy and Mopar lover anyway.

V.T.
