If you looked at the most recent blog update then this is old news but...

Tuesday was the end of the weight loss program with my sister. It worked out well and I lost 60.5 pounds, making $605 dollars (ten dollars for each pound lost). Woo hoo... But the next challenge won't be so easy.

This time I am challenging myself to lose another 60.5 pounds by 12/31/2013. That gives me a little over a year - roughly one pound a week. But here's the tougher part... One way or another during that period, I'm going to be sending the American Diabetes Association a total of $605...the same amount of money my sister paid me to lose weight.

I updated the blog a few hours ago and decided that ALL the donations - 100% - during that period are going to be given to the diabetes association. If the times passes and I don't work on canvassing and raising at least the $605 amount, I'm going to personally cover the rest! Talk about a little incentive to not slack off!

To add insult to injury, there is one last challenge. I dearly love carrot cake. As a "carrot" for the challenge, I'm not going to eat any until having lost that next 60.5 pounds... No pain no gain!

Van Trekker

Wow, that's a wonderful accomplishment and new goal! Congratulations and continued success!

Thanks!

I just got a call from the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association. I have a meeting with them on Tuesday and we're going to see what they can do to help get the word out. They really liked the idea of the challenges, first to make a few bucks and now to help them out. It's going to be an exciting time coming up!

V.T.

Sounds like a win win situation! You can count me in.

Way to go Brad! I know you can do it again!

Glad to hear from you Brad especially on such a good note. Good luck with your goals and keep us posted.

Rae

Your gonna have to change your screen name to Scrawny-Trekker

Good luck with that!!! What a good cause, for them and for you!

Thanks for the kind words... Last night I talked to a good friend who is an inspiration. Victor is a guy in his fifties who has diabetes and now walks everywhere. He lost a bunch of weight but also lost his family, house, business, etc.

Victor goes from city to city after natural disasters and helps with recovery efforts, volunteering his time and sharing the Gospel with people. He is a real inspiration and a man of God.

Last night Victor told me he is enjoying watching the weight loss thing unfold and said it is encouraging. I told him that I'm nothing - just a fat guy on a bike with a big heart and a terrific sister. Watching a once wealthy man share the Gospel with people and live with basically the clothes on his back... Now that's REALLY something remarkable and inspiring.

Just having friends here is encouraging, too. I see so many people who have been through really hard times in their lives but have found happiness and can see the good in others. It's amazing.

Have a great day!

Brad aka V.T.

VT,

I agree that it is a joy to see people able to 'walk their talk', and putting their lives into helping others.

The only thing I disagree with in your post: you are NOT nothing. Far from it.
