Greetings!
Just picked up a used 2020 HaulMark Transport 7'x14' TA cargo trailer and getting it ready for the move up to Washington in a couple of weeks.  The trailer came with BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 in 235/75R15 with no spare.  So in my search for a spare, I realized that 235/75R15 isn't an ideal size for 15x5 rims.  My question to the experts in here is, am I taking an enormous risk driving it over 2k miles?

Thanks,
Drew

Nice trailer, did you get the v-nose?

No I would not go anywhere without a spare.

Thanks, it's a v-nose with a 7' ceiling height and ramp door.  Definitely need a spare.  But the dilemma is the 4 current tires...

I use load range E rated tires on the cargo van, actually winter tires and I drive on them year round in AZ against everyone's advice. Pretty easy to peel out in the summertime, they have performed well.

For a trailer I would get the load range E, you can buy online and get delivery in a day or two to the tire shop. Others run light rags and do more tire repairs. I personally detest tire repairs unless someone else is doing them.

That wheel size is way to narrow for that tire. I wonder what shop mounted those? I would correct the situation. A word of caution the correct rim might have clearance issues. BFG wants a 6-7 inch rim. Highdesertranger

That's what I was afraid to hear.  Haven't a clue what shop mounted them or why the previous owner opt for BFGs. Although, I would love to mount them on my tow vehicle if they were the right size.

So, I guess I need to fork out $800 for a set of new rubbers for my trailer.

Thanks Highdesertranger

Not recommended. Rims should be at least 6" wide but I would prefer 7" wide rims as the tire is over 9" wide. You can not have much clearance between the tire and frame. If you have driven over any uneven ground you may see rub marks in the paint on the frame. If you inflate them to high enough pressures for the load of a build out you will probably wear out the center treads rapidly. 15" tires are getting expensive and harder to find. What size tire is on your tow vehicle? I like having the same wheel and tire on the trailer as the tow vehicle as I only need to carry one spare. There is a lot to consider when changing to wider wheels such as offset and bearing load, wheel to frame clearance, fender width and clearance. I would post a few pictures and remove a wheel and measure the offset and double check to see if the wheel is really only 5" wide, I can not imagine a tire shop would mount a tire that size on a wheel that narrow with today's lawyer happy consumers. Usually off roaders like to protect the rim and keep the tire bead seated at lower tire pressures by having a tire 1" to 2" wider than the rim but over 4" is just going to give you problems.

Thank you for your input!  My tow vehicle sits on 265/70/R17, so it won't be possible to put these same size tires on the tandem axle trailer (side by side clearance).  The trailer rims are all stamped 15x5 on the front so there's definitely no mistaking them for 5" wide.  I was planning to just do some wheel bearing maintenance and hit the road, but seems like I need new ST tires instead of these BFGs LTs.  Hopefully, I will be able to sell the BFGs on Craigslist to help cover the cost of a new set.  Thanks again Bullfrog!

Actually I prefer LT tires over ST tires on my trailers. Although my cargo trailer still has the ST tires on it. In my past experience ST tires are junk especially off road. Highdesertranger

Drew can you post a couple of pictures of these tires on the rims now? One from the side and one looking kinda edge-on at the tread face. I'd like to see if they look 'obviously' wrong or not.

Just curious.

Fortunately or unfortunately most of my friends had torches and welders! LOL! I seem to have a problem leaving well enough alone! LOL! New axles, springs, fenders and wheels with tires will keep me poor a while longer but they WILL match and be twice as heavy as what I need. Yep, I got a problem!

Hey all, thanks for your inputs. I decided not to keep the BFGs on the 15x5 rims, so I just purchased a set of Goodyear Endurance ST205/75R15 today to be on the safe side. Next on the list of to-dos is to repack the bearings with fresh grease before I hit the road!

This is the best pic to see the width and depth.
