Hello all.

I have camped my entire life.  Mostly lightweight tent camping and motorcycle camping.  When I had a young family we bought a 25 year old pop up camper and then eventually moved to a travel trailer.

The travel trailer has been gone for 9 years now and my back won't let me sleep comfortably on the ground anymore so I moved to using a truck tent, then got a deal on a truck topper / camper shell / truck cap and had been sleeping back there while my motorcycle sat in my 6x12 enclosed trailer.

This spring when Covid hit, I found myself not travelling for work, not commuting to work, and a lot of spare time on my hands.  I had thought about buying a toy hauler to get away, but the dealers were all shut down so I decided to slowly convert my 6x12 enclosed trailer into a lightweight toy hauler.

It has been a fun project that is constantly evolving as I progress from prototyping with whatever materials I have laying around to coming up with fully thought out designs as I spend nights in the trailer.  As of this posting I have spent 26 nights in the trailer since May.

Looking forward to learning from you all, and sharing what works for me.

Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the CRVL Forum   :)

Like so many who go on the road they're half compromised and half improvised and make up for
anything they lack with creativity.  And this site is treasure trove of creativity.  People only realize
how much fun it can be to live cheap once they have to and begin to get good at it.  Soon they begin
to weigh the new lifestyle choice with it's savings against how they used to live and it's cost,  at which point they become believers in designing the Nomadic way of life that best suits them.   Whether full or part time.

There are numerous ways of living this way.  I call them Camping: A, B, and C.
A, you are like a snow bird going south to warmer weather in the winter and returning in the spring.
B,  you migrate between a few camps thru the year.  Not necessarily having a fixed home residence.
C,  you just travel to sight see, take in events, historic places, and you are a full time Nomad.

There is a system some use called the "2-2-2".   Here you break camp around 6:30 am and have your itinerary of things to do and see.  You hit the road and drive to these places driving no more than "2" hours total.  You may eat breakfast & lunch on the road.  By "2" pm you are looking to find a camp
to stay in.  You will stay there the rest of that day and the next day before ("2" days) before you break camp to travel again.  Thus "2-2-2".  While in camp you can plan your next itinerary, go hiking, fishing, biking, swimming, or whatever.

Below are two websites.  The bottom one is a portal of handy info to use from home or while on the road.   The information provided is to help make your travels more safe, comfortable, and convenient.

All the best

Most curious what kind of motorcycle you’re traveling with?
