Hey guys!

I'm Keyata, my boyfriend Jack and I have decided to buy a van and hit the road with our 2 kittens! We are super excited but have no idea where the #%@$ to start! We want something to be able to stand in, have storage and a cubby for the litter box ( even though the kittens are leash trained and I'm trying to get them to go outside ), sink a little counter space for a hot plate and my boyfriend isnt that okay with going #2 in a bucket of kitty litter so maybe a toilet? I think that would take up to much space! I have looked at some sprinters but of course theyre not in our price range. I'm thinking a high top conversion would be our best bet. But then theres gutting and building and just a whole bunch of stuff that I dont know how to do!

I would love any advice and opinions! Also if anyone is in the Central Florida area that could meet with us and help that would be awesome too!

Hello and welcome to the CRVL Forum :)

I'm sure you can find a high top Van laying around somewhere at a price you can afford.
As for fitting it out, you're welcome to look at my websites below for any ideas you can get
from them to use.

The bottom site is more to use once you are rigged up and ready to set out.  You could spend some
time viewing it at night after working on the Van in the daytime.  That way you'll have some idea
of trips, travel, campgrounds, sights to see, places you can go to get cleaned up and lots of other information.
Much will depend on whether you need to be in warmer areas in the winter or cooler weather in the summer.
(there is even a link that will show you were it's 70 degrees all through the year if you want to migrate with the weather)

So,  good luck with your project and ventures !

Welcome to the forum.
A van may be a bit crowded for two people. Quite often you will be in each other's way and have to move around to accommodate the other person. A small Class C may be a better fit.

I wouldn't use kitty litter for human waste; it's too expensive and too heavy. Use sawdust, instead.

WHY can't boyfriend use a bucket (or similar)? If he insists on all of the mod cons, this experiment may not last long. The kittens will probably adapt better.

Welcome to the CRVL forums, Keyata and Jack!

My advice is always to start simply and inexpensively. Expand as necessary. Even those that have been out on the road for a long time are always finding improved ways of dooing things. See what I did there?

I use a bucket with a plastic bag lined food container and 1/4 to 1/2 cup of kitty litter. The kitty litter is stored in the bucket, making a seat for the food container. A 14-16 pound jug of kitty litter lasts me over 6 months and it's easy to store.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

He seems to think that there will be toilets all over the place! If we're out in the woods somewhere there is no way to pack up quick and look for a bathroom for his morning pooh. My kittens adapt very well. I just put a harness and leash on them one day and they were walking like champs, they sometimes are afraid to hop in the car but they get use to it.

Thank you so much!

I thought kitty litter would be the best since we're going to have it anyway!

Welcome aboard the good ship CRVL ,,,,,arrrrrrgggggggggh!

Welcome!
Lol at the BF, I have a porta potti and prefer the bucket and sawdust / litter (either works, but sawdust id lighter) especially out in the great wide open where there are no dump stations
Of course the BF could just grab a trenching tool and make a cat hole, the kittens will teach him! :D

Hello and welcome.  Jack may like this little puppy... All the comforts of home  Can use the bucket that comes with it or slide it off and sit a 5 gal. bucket under it.  Folds flat and holds up to 350lbs.
