Hi everyone,

I was on here a while back under another name. Tothemoonandback. Somehow I got locked out of that name and couldn't get back in, so I have been stalking again. lol Now I know I truly have a gypsy soul that is who I have become on here.

To remind those that were here and introduce myself to those who weren't, I am from S.C. I had been staying with a friend in the upstate. I wanted to go on the road in my Kia Sportage but was unsure at the time if I could make it. I also had been in a wreck and had some injuries I had to deal with. That was in January. I returned to Charleston, stayed with another friend, and continued in therapy. I was hoping my wreck would be settled and i would have a van before getting on the road, but I guess life has other plans. Haha. My friend has decided she wants her home back to herself so out I go. With no home to call my own, I have decided to take to the Kia and head West to begin with. I did have work done on the Kia back in January, so short of an oil change, she should be ready to go. She does have 160,000 miles, but I believe there is one more good trip left in her. I guess this is my test run for when I get my van.

I am very very excited and somewhat nervous, but I am packed and first thing Thursday morning I am heading out. I need to stop in Tn first to see my daughter, but then I think I am headed to the Yellowstone area. I really don't have a lot of time for research so please advise me of cool things to do and see on my journey. I will stop in Reno to see family later in September and probably on to Cali before I meet my daughter in Miami in late October. I don't know if I have everything I need, but I am going. Hope to talk with you guys soon.

Caryn - sounds like an AWESOME trip you have planned! Hope you have a wonderful time! I'll be following your travels. Good luck!

Welcome back. Please keep us updated on all of the cool things you're going to see and do on your trip. Have fun and be safe!

Welcome back to being a named forum member! Since you've been here before and been reading lately, I'm guessing you do know the basics like a way to have enough heat and how much water to carry, etc.

I think your trip will be fantastic and you have friendly "bases" to land at along the way if you need breaks from the car-dwelling.

My first thought when you mentioned Yellowstone was to remind you to carefully check weather forecasts in advance of being at any high elevations. September should be great weather during the days, but nights can be very cold. Checking in advance will allow you to prepare and be safe. There are lower elevation places around to camp for free, so you should be fine. The summer super-crowds will be gone and the wildlife viewing gets even better in the fall. You will also want to watch for which services are open in the park at the time you will be going through there. Some things begin to shut down.

And you are right about this trip helping you know much more about what will be necessity vs "want" in your van when you get it. How exciting!

Hi and Welcome Back!! :) What fun adventure ahead for you. :D

Welcome back. Hope you have a ball on your adventure.

ty guys There is so much to do, I don't know where to begin. lol

I'm from SC too, and my family all still lives in the upstate. I'm not there now. I don't meet a lot of people from SC when I'm not in SC.

I'm from NC and I say the same thing. I've rarely met anyone from here outside of here.

Hi everyone,

It has been shy of a year since I posted this post. I ended up leaving on September 4, 2015 in my Kia Sportage. I headed to Tn to see my daughter and then began to wander. I wanted to see places I hadn't seen before, but my ultimate goal was to make it to Nevada to visit my grandmother. She was up there in age and had been almost ten years since I saw her.

I guess I should have journaled everything I did, because it's so hard to remember now, but I will be moving on in a few months and I will start there.

I will tell you that I covered about 13 states I had not seen and had some very awesome experiences along the way. I camped about a week in Wyoming where Moose came right through my campsite as I was cooking breakfast. I think this was one of my favorite places. I went to Yellowstone and The Tetons. I love the wildlife that I encountered along the way. I even stopped some where in Idaho and bottle fed baby bears.

I made it to Nevada to see my grandmother and spent about two weeks there. I continued up through Oregon and Washington. I made it to Miami to meet my daughter for her birthday at the end of October. On Halloween, we got a call that my grandmother had passed. I flew back to Nevada and stayed a few weeks. While I was there I purchased a class C.  I drove it back to SC and stayed until the Holidays were over. In January I drove to Nashville and I am still here. It has been nice to be near my daughter, but the winter was too cold for me. I will leave here mid November and eventually make my way to the RTR. I have wanted to get there for a couple years now, but this year I plan to be there. For now I will keep the class C. I like the room, but at the same time it's too big. lol I do miss traveling in the Kia. We sure had a good time together! Anyway, that's it for now. I hope to meet some of you in January.

Ty it was amazing. There is so much out there to see. I saw a lot and some wonderful experiences, but there is much more for me to see. I'll start with RTR and go from there.
