I have trying to decide how to orient the guts of my van for a week now. I was dead set on having the bed in the rear. I just don't want to have to large of a bed since it's just me. So I have this really nice massage table that is very comfortable and has been sitting in it's nice little case for about 3 years now. Last night I thought about using it as my bed, BRILLIANT!!! I loosely measured the back of the van when I got it and remembered it being 6' wide, that's the length of my table So I went out to just make sure because i was so stoked about it... my van is 5'10.75" wide... Table 6'... FML!!!

I could probably make it work(it's padded on the ends too), though I would risk damaging my lovely $450 table, or denting out the van. It's 30" wide so yes, I could run it the other way.... but that's not how I want it to work hahaha. I feel like a 5 year old right now, hahaha!

If I don't use it though, I will be getting rid of it. I just don't want to get rid of it now that I had this idea even though I don't use it... though I could get my license back and start again...

Anyway, what are your thoughts.

Carefully peal back the vinyl - metal or wood - trim off a full 1" & 1/2" off each edge - re-tack or glue the vinyl --- as we say in Yiddish -- Bingo

( I say a full 3" because your still gonna drop in in place &nbsp

Dunno 'bout your table, but mine is rounded on the ends....it appears it would be easier to cut and repair where the hinges are....still might be tricky.....
measured mine- it's 6'0" also.....

plywood, foam and covering would be faster and cheaper than dicing a $450. table- you could sell the table for a couple hundred, build your bed to fit and have money left over.......

Why dont you just tilt the end up slightly on the end for your head. It sounds like it wont take much. You probably wont notice it.

Very interesting idea Sidney, that never crossed my mind. I think I will play with that a bit this weekend.

So today I was playing around with the Maps app on my droid during lunch and I found a Foam retailer here that makes custom foam beds and other stuff. I stopped in to check it out after work and asked how much for a custom made 30X72 5 inch think mattress. $400... Ouch!

The good part is that it would have a 10 year 100% replacement warranty, it's locally owned and all materials are locally sourced. This is with 3" of pretty dense foam and a 2" cushy topper... all wrapped in a nice cover similar to a temperpedic cover.

So this got me thinking harder about my plans for the Van. I might change my ideas up a bit and find a better way to use the table. I love a good challenge!

To be continued...

Love reading your tales of challenges! It keeps me inspired to keep improving my own vehicle's interiors..
