Got my old army surplus sleeping bag out yesterday to use in my camper shell, but it had a faint musty smell. Washed and dried it, but the smell is still there. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

If the bag is dry, then you can rub it with some Borax. Another option is to just air it out for a bit, perhaps go to the health food store, get some GSE, Grape Seed Extract. Put 20-35 drops into a 1ltr/pint sprayer, then spray it on, rub it off.

Borax! Dang I forgot about that stuff, its super legit! Also I agree a good air out otta help. I woke yesterday to a musty smelling whole van so at least you've got it pin pointed. Looks like a trash and laundry day!

Decided to go the cheap , least labor intensive route first and aired it out for a couple of days while it was sunny and windy. It got rid of the musty smell. Thanks guys.

Something to keep in mind. Did this with my gear. Take a bounce drier sheet and place it in with your items that you are storing them. Cheap and takes no space. Gives things that fresh clean smell when they come out of storage.Used them in my motorcycle helmets, gear and camping gear, etc.

Mix 50/50 Cornstarch-Talcum Powder in container with holes in lid.

Sprinkle liberally on sleeping bag.

Put in big trash bag and fluff.....leave closed up for a day or two.

Take out and hang to air out.

Worked in military from damp ground/rain then closed up.

Good luck!
