My story from this past week is my message.

In summary, I am seeing first hand more and more "mixed receptions" near the last of the Caravans, either:

a) "Go away - we don't want you."
b) "I will help you if you follow the virus guidelines."

My past five days:

The charging system for my auxiliary "house" batteries failed Monday, March 23, so I looked for a place to charge them until I could diagnose and perform repairs.

I went to several RV parks in and around Parker, AZ looking for a place to moor for a few days so that I could charge my batteries while shopping for parts and performing repairs.

[Question: Is there anywhere else I can pay for a 30 amp or 15 amp outlet to charge my aux batteries other than an RV park?]

I drove through several RV parks which appeared about 70% occupancy, but the main office told be "Sorry we're not taking any new business until this virus thing is over." Asking them for other local RV parks they would refer me to, they said "I think we're all doing basically the same thing - no new business due to the virus because we want to protect our current residents."

I fortunately found one RV park on the outskirts of town who had a few spots left and rented one to me. I charged my batteries and performed my repairs, but was met with a mixed reception.

Two old codgers were my first welcoming party. "Where are you from?!? You don't live here and we don't want no virus people in our park! Well, since they let you in, don't shop at our stores since that's for us!"

Unsettling; understandable; a first for me.

Another welcoming party to stop by were "outsiders" (a family from Canada) who had been there since before the outbreak. They were friendly, welcoming and cautious. We followed the social distancing guidelines, swapped stories and got to know one another over a few days.

I experienced similar mixed receptions in town (Parker) while shopping for repair parts and supplies - either suspicion or empathy.

What did I learn?

 • Resources that I thought would always be there for me are now not as easy to find.
 • Strangers are beginning to take sides.

What you’re describing is a predictable reaction from people facing a severe external threat over which isolating is one of the most effective means of staying safe. IMO

Not the most magnanimous way of treating you, the places that turned you away and comments you received, but understandable.

Glad you found a place to set for a spell, and try to take it all in stride, as this will pass.

Be careful out there.

It is human nature to protect your own territory from strangers, especially ones who might carry an unseen but real threat to their life. Or who might use up resources such as food and medical supplies.

NIMBY plus basic survival tactics are to be expected. Just keep to yourself, the less visible you make yourself at the RV park the better off you will be.

I don't mind people protecting their territory; as long as they don't piss on me when their marking it.

Wouldn't help you in Parker, but posted for anyone in Pahrump that needs to hook up to power and can't find a spot in town.
A no questions asked RV park, with social isolation space, near Pahrump, is the RV park next to the Amargosa Valley Rest Area at the junction of US-95 and NV-373.
If a resident here approached someone as you encountered, that resident might be reprimanded. Thankfully, there is no one here currently, that would act that way.
When I came over four years ago, there were some busybodies here, but the on site management changed to a laid back style, nomads with school buses, etc. started showing up, and those busybodies went elsewhere.
I'm just a long term resident, no referral fees.

JeanInaBox - I spend more time trying to figure out what the abbreviations mean than reading posts. What did you mean in post 5?

come on people if you post something make sure we can understand what you are posting.

DEFINE ALL ABBREVIATIONS.

there is a list of abbreviations in the rules that have a definition. if you abbreviate something that is not on that list you need to define it at least once per use in a thread.
