The microwave in our RV doesn't work. We can't buy a microwave like you use in the house and put in that spot can we? There is a space in the cabinets for it.

Yes, you can use a standard microwave just make sure that you follow the spacing guidelines so that it has adequate ventilation.

You have to have the right power type...is there a plug there for household voltage or did the last one run off 12v?

before you junk it there is a Fuse in it also.
did your GFI trip ?
my MW is on the GFI circuit in the bathroom, sometimes it will trip, same circuit as the outside receptacles. & or the refrigerator, depends on the wiring in the RV,

DH plugged it into a regular plug in and it didn't work. Is there a fuse in the microwave? We know nothing about this stuff, I bought a book at the thrift store today about basic RV/camping and hopefully it will show him some stuff.

if you have tried another "working circuit it may be fried.
o-ok most microwaves security screws holding them together (for safety concerns) but inside on the control board is a (normally "glass fuse")
I used to repair microwaves but most now cost more to replace the touch pad or the thermal fuse than a whole new MW cost..
what ever you all decide be sure it does ventilate good enough- the humidity from cooking can ruin a cabinet & you not know it. RV's in general have humidity problems any way.
good luck.

Thanks. My DD has to run a dehumidifier in her camper in the summer. Our humid summers here in Alabama are rough. Thanks so much for the help.
