Edit: Oh there it is. Got it loaded.

This is pretty cool. The legend is helpful for what type of land it is. How labor intensive was this to put together? I'm sure you had to compare different resources. Would you say it's a comprehensive assessment of what's out there?

Very nice!

The only minor criticism I have is that State Forests and Indian Reservations are very similar colors, making it difficult to tell the two apart. All told though, excellent work!

Are Indian reservations areas that people can camp on? I'm a bit ignorant there. Those seem to be the largest areas on the East though.

Great job PB!!!

Looking at it makes me understand another reason that I like about Oregon so much...LOTS of public lands!! :D

I had to download the data from each state and then join everything together. I saw plenty of RVs on Indian land but not sure about the rules.

The map looks better if you downloaded and open it on your phone or windows.

I did download it and plan to keep it for reference. Thanks for putting this together.

Other than in casino parking lots (check with each one for the rules), I don't think most tribes allow camping on their land. Many people camp along the road to Algodones, but the tribal police will ask you to pay.

Also be aware that your ccw permit is PROBABLY not valid on most reservations.  See:

it's very cool that you took the time to do this. for me though there is not enough detail, it doesn't enlarge far enough, once you enlarge to get better detail you will notice a lot off holes in those general maps. highdesertranger

here is a new web site that you can zoom way in on several different type of land searches. go to the land status map to find who is the land administrator. you can almost get it to the detail of a 7.5 USGS QUAD. plus it gives you GPS coordinates of where your cursor is at. if you can't figure out the land status with this you are in trouble. sorry planet-beaver I am not putting your map down but like I said the detail just isn't there. highdesertranger

I have downloaded all the MVUM's for every state (except Hawaii) that I could find.  They are by state>forest>Somtimes ranger District if it was available.  I would post it here if someone would let me know how.  It is 2.75 GB (2,961,534,563 bytes).

HDR, I'm watching it right now!! Somehow Gold Rush is my favorite show on TV!

Thanks so much for the map, that's really great work and very generous of you.

The best product I've found is the US Public Lands app for smartphones. It uses the phones GPS so it's real-time for your location as you go in and out of public land. Plus, it displays as a Google Earth Sat view or map view . Truly outstanding!

Thanks for feedback. This is a wall map to plan general routes. It is not for navigation. I know there are tons of online maps but that requires connection and eats data. The maps I want to make are fully loaded on you phone or PC, have Geo in them so your location shows you on the map with GPS turned on. Every state would be 60mb but once downloaded you get public parcels as small as 1 acre and all the roads. And again, once you download each state at youf local McD, no data is needed from a tower.

Let me know what you guys think
