5.5 felt in Southern AZ. Here is a link of current events. I did not know there were so many.  -crofter

I had enough time to get in a steel doorway. This place is very old, and based on the amount of quakes, is battle tested. Nothing even rattled, but my laptop was wiggling like mad.  -crofter

I'm sure glad the good doctor is interested in earthquakes and has a monitor down there. Is that the San Andreas fault or something else? I have heard people in El Centro say they get alot of quakes.   -crofter

I felt a little something in Quartzsite. I thought it was a gust of wind making the van sway.

This afternoon we felt the one at about 3pm, thought it was a class A driving by. I just realized that this place does not shake from traffic at all.   -crofter

Lucky you! You are at least 300 miles from the circle with all the shaking inside of it. Epicenter was south of Mexicali.  -crofter

I thought I felt it here in PA too??? But I guess i was just gas. Campfire beans last night.

We were camped just south of DC a number of years ago, when the earthquake hit that area.

Sitting outside, rocking and watching the RV do the same, by the time we realized what it was it was over.

I’ve been in a few little ones back home.

They are a reminder of what we cannot control.

According to a news report today there are 100 active faults in AZ, near Yuma, Tuscon, and Prescott. Being in your van out in the sticks is a pretty good structure in a quake. Parked in town next to a brick building not so much.  -crofter

Yep, the area has plenty of active faults including the one near Ridgecrest of last summer's series of strong quakes. In this screen grab of a map, the red lines are active fault lines.

The USGS site has a "Community Internet Intensity Map" where people can report what they felt. It shows reports from almost 5,000 people feeling last night's 5.5 all the way out to Los Angeles and Tucson.

I you click on the map that comes up in the link it will go to a more detailed full page map. Then you can click on the little boxes to see number of reports for the location, etc. Pretty cool.

Thanks for the map link, bonvanroulez! Have not heard from the PNW yet. I'm sure their quake stories would top a 5.5.  -crofter

A lot of places in Idaho felt that quake including Boise. But no damage reported in the populated areas.

Correct. What I meant to say was no damage in the felt reports map.
