So a lot of people may remember when I said in my original posts how I'd be taking my girlfriend along with me, well that didn't work out.

This time around I am planning on doing the haul solo. Recently fixed up my van to last a good while. Gotta love that 307 V8 ;).

Anyways, I saw this and had a few pointers I'd like to add to this part of the forum :
1. Being alone does not always mean alone. Make friends online. Get a CB radio have some decent conversations with different people.

2. Try not to dig to deep when looking for women, the van life is not exactly one meant for picking up women but the women who do want to come with you, are usually not the type you're looking for (Put it bluntly all I found last trip were methheads.)

3. Everyone wants to be loved, but you shouldn't force it. Find something you connect with on a personal level IE Painting, Music, anything really. It will help you in your long journey or as I like to call it the "Journey Home".

4. Find some hobbies such as making money online or working on your van's gas mileage and such.

There are a lot of things for the solo vandweller to enjoy his time apart from romance and society, anyways if you guys have any other points you'd like to add, please feel free.

I removed your go fund me link. It's not allowed.

"(Put it bluntly all I found last trip were methheads.)"

that's pretty offensive as are most generalizations. And it's on you. You're looking in the wrong places.

I do realize that's been your experience. But, it speaks to where you're looking. I can think of 5 women off the top of my head, full-timing, that I've met personally, under the age of 30 and they are as far from meth heads as one can be. They're not a soup kitchens or hanging around town. They're out doing, traveling. living life, experiencing adventures.

Find adventure and travel blogs that interest you. Start with the blog list on this forum. Find blogs that you  like and then look at the blogs those people follow. Nu RVers are one group of younger full-timers.

Quirky travel guy has a big follow. read the comments and find commentors (commentator?) you like. many of those people have blogs.

Alright, cool. Did not know it was against the rules, maybe I should have read them more.
Anyways, the general consensus in most areas I have been : Missouri, Illinois, and Ohio is that most of the people I would run into due to my choice of profession are on meth / methheads. Sorry for the broad generalization but it has happened many many many times. (No where did I say everyone was a methhead though, no offense.) The midwest is loaded with them, which is why I am slowly getting out of the midwest.
Also, a lot of the blogs don't seem to share information on parking overnight / camping and instead explain their day to day lives. (At least the ones I have seen.)

Due to choice of profession...    Musician?

Having been in Missouri for 20 years, I have made sure I do not associate with any methheads by choice.  There are plenty of nice clean single women in the college towns.  Just stay away from my daughters! ;)

If you ask at any convenience store, most will allow you to park in the back overnight.

Tattooist.
The average clientèle that I get where I am are usually on some form of narcotic. Not to judge everyone but when the last 5 clients you meet all have beady eyes and seem to be unable to sit still for more than a total of 2 seconds, yeah I'm gonna judge them lol.
Missouri seems to be loaded with them to be honest, I think it is just because I see a lot more people than the average person does I guess.
Not to say everyone who would get in a van with you is a drug addict.
Not even going to lie though there is a lot of eye candy in Columbia and Saint louis MO.

My problem really seems to be the people I attract more than anything, didn't mean anything by my statement. I will stand by the fact that almost every person I have met on the road is a heroin addict / on some kind of narcotic and usually an addict though. (Not to give van dwellers a bad name, most of them lived in cars anyways.)

There are tweekers everywhere, unfortunately. Not to hijack your thread, but if as much government money was spent on drug rehab as is spent on drug interdiction, there might be some progress.

Most of the big tattoo aficionados I know are bikers. Half of them (the wealthy ones) are clean.

I have noticed a lot of people living in cars on heavy drugs, but the van dwellers I associate with tend to keep themselves clean. Pot is around, but the old hippies have kicked the hard stuff. Not much drinking even.

Like Willie Nelson says~~~ The world is going to pot.

If you are parked at the beach almost anywhere in SoCal and leave your side door open, the homeless gals will eventually stop by and peek in. They are always looking to move up from sleeping on the beach or under a bush. You give them any encouragement, they are going to take up residence. I had to turn down two in the last week. One was drunk and the other one high, which gives you an idea of what's typical with these girls. I have traveled with several gals but I knew them awhile before. It wasn't really that fun because they were messy and relied on me to pay for most things.
Also I'm past 50 and most of the girls that ask to travel with me are 30 or younger. They don't know how to just relax and enjoy the moment. They get bored way too easily. So I guess I'll keep traveling alone. Unless Cupid overrides my commonsense. :)

Now here is some actionable information!  I'll use this to get motivated to clean up the van.

There are ALL kinds of people in this country. The circles you travel in determine the kind of people you see. Go to church--you'll probably meet middle-class average joes. Go to bars, you'll probably meet drinkers and partiers. Of course there are exceptions to all those, but basically they are true.

If you want to to meet different kinds of people, go different places.

I'm in Moab, UT right now and the place is packed with attractive, fit, healthy women of all ages that are here to enjoy life to it's fullest. They are adventerous risk takers come to mountain bike, hike, climb, raft--drink deep of life! They can all understand the appeal of vandwelling, even if it's not for them. There are hundreds of towns all across the western US just like this place. Any mountain town in the Rockies will have them, Especially the ones near National Parks. Jackson Wy is another one!!

Don't just change your residence, change your way of thinking!

This thread reminds me I need to get out of Southern California for a road trip soon. I have absolutely no desire to interact with 95% people here and that is completely different when I escape this land of 'too cool to acknowledge you'.

I also apparently am quite intimidating because I often park near the beach with my doors open, and few people dare to approach me, but then Again I am not in Ocean Beach. I don't let anybody In my van unless I know them. Not that many try.

My ideal travel companion is apparently right on the shelf next to the unobtanium and crystallized unicorn tears.

So be it.

Bishop, CA will be full of adventure seeking women of all ages, hikers, climbers, backpackers, mountain bikers that are health and nature oriented. Meeting great people is easy if you're outgoing and the odds of a connection drasticaly increase.

I am curious as to what the OP brings to the table.  It often seems that males on this forum are pretty fussy about the kinds of females they want but don't share a lot about their own attributes.  :dodgy:

Not being on meth for one.... just saying.
My choice to be alone has been due to a long road of mental warfare with women, not to say they're all the same.

It also wasn't an attack on the van dweller community, but I can see how it may offend some people.

Huh--I'm honestly surprised any addict would spend money on a tattoo instead of drug of choice. Maybe if you advertise cheap tattooing, you get cheap people...?

BTW, how on earth do you run an autoclave or keep sterile in a van-dwelling environment? Some kind of portable setup and tattoo parties along the way?

And I'll bet you don't look anything like your avatar. :D

Ah, shame you missed out on my pictures then. As well, that is a cartoon so I'm glad I don't look like pen and paper. lol.

I don't. I work in shops that would let me guest there. I am licensed in the state of MO so it is very easy to find a temporary license elsewhere through the state.

I would never tattoo someone in a non-sterile environment. My mentor would roll over in his grave and get up and kill me himself.

Also, they usually don't have money at all.

good tip about Bishop CA. bob. I can attest. I have met a couple of ladies there. in fact I meet ladies wherever I go. not that anything ever comes of the meetings just stay clear of the bad and the rest will work out. highdesertranger
