Hi, strangers! Long time no see!

So for anyone who remembers me, I went down to the summer RTR in California and hung out with Bob and Steve and Shari and everyone else down there. After that I headed back up to Washington to deal with bank/mortgage/foreclosure issues, and....

I'm still there.

So yeah, I left the forum behind for a while because I was living at the condo again and my plans were postponed. But now the time is upon me, and I'm ready to head out. If anyone here reads my blog (and its utterly fascinating less than once-a-month updates), I posted about my plans today. Basically, I'm heading down to the Slabs for the winter. For several reasons, the biggest being that I have much less interest in traveling right now than in simply staying in one place and making a camp, and the Slabs are good for that. I also like the option of being social or not, and the wild artistic side of the place.

I'm thinking of heading to Victorville first, since I want to get a solar panel put on the van (all I need for happiness is power to keep my laptop going) and I was hoping to recruit Bob to help me with that. And seeing that crew again would be nice. But either way in the next week or so I am California bound! Look for Falkor and I to make more appearances here from now on.

Awesome...welcome back Lucy. I read your blog post and hope you find a good source for solar and install. See you at the RTR,
Peace,
Bri

Thanks, Bri! It's gotten cold and miserable up here in Washington so that's pushing me to leave sooner rather than later. I could use a little dry desert warmth right now.

Unless you have some reason to want to spend time at the slabs, I would spring for the season long permit for the LTVA's (long term visitors area) in southern California and Arizona. I think it's like $180 for 6-7 months in camp grounds with at least some services and a better atmosphere than the slabs in climate as well as social. This is just an opinion for what I have read about the situation down there. There is also the Quartzite area "rendezvous" thing but you also need to move every two weeks I believe there on the BLM land. Another plus with the LTVAs is you don't have to move if you like a particular spot.
Good luck but check out you options before settling on the slabs. I think you be happier.

Well she lives... Good to here from ya Lucy and hope all is well... Bob, myself and dogs along with a few others are enjoying the high desert N of Victorville... We plan to head Qz way in the first part of Nov, as soon as it cools a bit down there...

Keep in the loop and you will have updates... Bob started a blog shortly after the summer RTR, he has done a great job of it also... Catch up here: http://cheaprvlivingblog.com/

Steve

From what i've read of the Slabs it has all kinds. Kind of reminds me of the Rainbow Gathering type crowds. I am going to be Homeless and living in my Class C come december and i've been considering checking out the Slabs at some point. I do have to stay up in the Seattle Area till December since i have to Renew my drivers License then and thats where my License and everything is out of. But after that i might Wander that way Unless something better comes along.

Welcome back Lucy! Great to see you again. I added a comment on your blog. Take care!

V.T.

Thanks again, everyone!

Terry, I have done some research into the Slabs and some alternatives before making the decision. But then that's the thing with this lifestyle, isn't it? Saying that I'm heading down there doesn't mean I can't decide to leave again if I don't like the atmosphere. I think I will, but who knows?

Wes, I got your email, sent you a reply. The rain here's starting to kill me, I'm hoping to get out of here asap. Before snow becomes an issue, too. But I don't blame you for wanting to renew everything before you head down. I'm good to go until the end of next year, and by that time I figure I'll probably take up residency in AZ or wherever. I'll take lots of pictures if I get down there before you do, give you a n idea what to expect if you do come to the Slabs.

Steve! How the hell are ya? How's Zeke? I was thinking about making my way down to where you and Bob are and begging your help in getting some real solar put on the van. Just a warning in advance.

And thanks, VT. I think most of the limited traffic to my blog comes from your site.

Heh that would be awesome, More info on the slabs is always welcome. My big limitation right now is after car insurance and my cell phone bill as well as necessary expenses such as cat food and the like i have "Maybe" 300 bucks for gas. And my Ol Class C gets "Maybe" 8mpg. which would cost me like 600 bucks in gas... I am hoping to improve the fuel Economy on my beast. if i can get it up to 10 mpg that drops it almost 200 bucks!
