On the road for summer
All afternoon I put up with my neighbor and as time went by it became worse. Smoke and odors invaded our space.

A little while ago he came over and brought us a big chunk of smoked turkey breast.

Ha Ha, you thought it was something bad.

Yup, it wuz.. cuz white meat ain't fit to eat. Drumstick, on the other hand, that's good eatin'! ..willy.

The thigh is the primo part of a turkey, IMHO. Glad we don't all want the same parts!

Yum! Can you give us any identifying info? If we ever see him, I want to park next to him so I can be tortured, too.

My business shop is next door to a restaurant that has onna those big outdoor BBQ's, (his pork ribs are phoenominal!!!)
...and everyday at 11am, he gets that thing fired up for the noon lunch bunch...and I'll be damned it that smell doesn't always find it's way over to my shop.

Ya know how hard it is to concentrate on my work with that smell constantly lurking under my nose???? :p

TORTURE I TELL YA!!!! TORTURE!!!

Actually, the "neighbors" are the nice retired folks who rented us their unused RV pad while we're in Tucson updating medical, etc.
We backed into a beautiful, fenced yard with access to a patio area and use of a hot tub. We're paying as whopping $225/mo, full hook-ups, electric, wifi, cable included. Now, if we run the A/C (which we don't need yet) we'll add a few bucks (my rule).
We planned to boondock, but this keeps us from driving (saving $$$), as we're on the bus line and can shop nearby with bikes. Margie's insurance covers a cab ride to Dr appointments and my bus ride to the VA is $3 round trip.

I ran an ad on Craigslist and got 9 replies in 2 days. We chose this one for location...close to friends, shopping, bus, and its our old "hood". They even picked us up to meet and go have a look. There was no deciding to it....a win, win, win, win.

Oh, the first place we saw was a yard with dog poo all over, an orange cord running 100' around the house for electric (yeah right), and a yucky looking water hose...sewer dump (RV dump 2 miles). They were only trying to pick up a few extra ($300) dollars and had no clue. Tried to drive away real quick, but they came running out with their "sales pitch". It was everything we could to keep their 4 dirty kids from storming in the door (little Bindi in "kill mode"). Couldn't get out of there fast enough, LOL.

Other offers sounded good, some more $, some less $...I think we're getting more than what we're having to pay for right where we are...and, making some good friends too....Priceless :)

Nice score ... and what a good idea to run an ad in Craigslist! Would you mind sharing what you said in that ad? Did you post a picture of your rig too? I'm curious and I think it could be informative to others as well. Thanks, Suanne

Hi Suanne,

Here's the ad copy in Craigs. I posted in both "parking and storage" and "rooms wanted". Offers came from both, this one from "rooms wanted", as they also have a guest cottage they rent sometimes. They hadn't thought of renting the RV pad, so it caught her eye.

RV Parking Month of April (Tucson Central)

Need RV space for April (N.Central)
Do you have an RV pad you're not using currently?? We would like to offer some rent and (minimal use) electric money.

My wife and I need a place to park our 27' class A for the month of April 2014. I need to be in Tucson for tests, etc at the VA, so need to be near a bus line, as we don't tow a car. (do use our bikes for shopping, etc).
We (she 55/he 66) are quiet, respectful, stay to ourselves, and keep a neat, uncluttered space.
Being on social security its hard to afford RV parks, but am able to pay as agreed, and up front.

Please, respond here or call Margie (cell ###)

Using my cell and Margie's name helped to know segregate the calls, as her calls never come to my phone.

A lot of people poo-poo Craigs, siting scams, spam, and other complaints, but I've used it for years for sales, barter, and buying, as well as looking for things, including things like this. I recommend caution and common sense.
I've seen cell phones for broken ones trying to be switched by simple slight of hand and a few other tricks, so again, watch your ass, as with all things.
Depending on the situation, I have even met a buyer at my/their bank lobby for things like fine jewelry and other more expensive "in hand smalls". A scammer will likely not show for the meeting, so this ploy can help provide security.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the sample Craigslist ad. That you are upfront with the size of your RV, length of stay, and reason for needing a space makes you seem trustworthy in that ad. It makes for a useful example. Also, those are great tips for staying safe from scammers and thieves who use Craigslist to prey on potential victims. Much appreciated, Suanne

I have also posted on Craiglist under real-estate and found acreage for boondocking for short money......did a couple where I parked in the driveway and got paid for mowing the lawns , painting and light handyman services while they were trying to sell!!!

Far from torture and my OP, but what the hey, its my thread and we're having fun here. Hope our mods agree ;)

Never know what might come up unless you ask.
>We asked if anyone wanted to swap an RV for our SUV...I think we got the better part of the deal, but the guy was happy too.
>Needed a smaller TV for the RV...traded for a new in box Vizio 24" (used TV maybe $50-100...new 24" $200...saved $$ trading).
>Sold my old work van...too small for 2 travelers w/dog.
>Traded non-working popular paintball gun for running (nice) motorized bike. (later sold for $300).
>Sold tons of antiques and goodies during downsizing for RV...very happy with results.
>many trades, sales/buys, and finding space...all good experiences.

Got some stuff to trade off....Craigs Barter section can do wonders.
Once I began trading a pair of salt and pepper shakers...after several trades of the resulting items I ended up with a car I sold for $1000.
I love to barter and never know what people have tucked away they don't want anymore.
Try it and see what you come up with after a dozen trades.

OK......back to talking Turkey , Im hungry and need a sandwich!!!!.....LOL!

I smoke pork from time to time (Big Green Egger). My neighbors have to smell that apple wood all day and night. They usually float by to see if I need help eating it.

I used to have an electric smoker that would do 20lbs of meat at a time... very handy when all the neighbors would come by 'to make sure there wasn't a fire' once they caught a whiff... usually just about the time the meat was done :p

You can get the same response by using a marinade of picante sauce, worcestershire sauce (4/1), garlic, onion powder, pepper and a tiny bit of liquid smoke. Awesome flavor, but people in the next county can smell it as soon as it hits the grill :D
