Have a friend with a great flip phone. The battery last for days even with lots of talking. The antenna is great because people with smartphones on same network standing next can’t make or receive calls. I’m suggesting they get someone’s hand me down large screen phone, tablet or laptop. EX. smartphone used as a small tablet connecting by WiFi to the small MiFi for internet.
Now having a smartphone or a MiFi will not guarantee you always have internet on the road. There are huge areas of the country with poor or no service.
