This vid is actually worth watching if you are at all tempted to get a sprinter van, fast forward to axle repairs. Still looks pretty real to me.

I’ve thought of a great way to cut down on the traffic for such things. I am going to randomly appear in the videos in a thong. Problem is I’ve worked hard for 60 years to keep the Whitey tighty’s from going up in there now they have underwear that’s designed to be up in there. What’s that about?

Replying to an older post,
"I've seen a similar point about photos/vids that show someone looking out of the opened back doors of their van onto a beach scene or a beautiful sunset. They might have a big bed there and everything looking so comfy and clean"

They are/were replicating a classic PR shot from inside one of those coffins on wheels aka tiny campers, looking out over their toes, upon a beach and an endless sea.

Similar other worldly shots can be found when looking for images of an interior of a toy hauler, never any images with oil stains, tools, or a "toy" in the garage, instead we are shown a formal dinner setting on a table, with lit candles, and the ramp down, to allow us to gaze upon a mountain range. Evidently flying insects are never an issue in PR world.

No one wants to see that the dream sucks. That this is just a different form of existing with it's own draw backs. They want to see a commercial for how wonderful it will be once their dream comes true. It is after they get out here that they wish they had seen videos about the reality.

Haha, I have these nice scenic photos. But it just so happens that the van is usually broken down while those photos are taken! Nobody talks about van breakdowns. It's all lies I tell you!

I've seen quite a few break down video's.

Am I supposed to be upset because some guy shows his hot girlfriend showing to get views? Not going to happen.

So true. I can remember a few weeks back that someone was discouraged by heat & bugs. Well. Better bugs than thugs, the bugs only take little bites.

But breakdowns beside the road will be part of reality & need to have a plan to get a tow or fix it where it broke. Plan to get a motel or stay in the broken vehicle at the mechanic shop.

Having taught English in Colombia (Medellin and Bogota) I’d bet that was filmed in Costa Rica. The narcos own the jungles and even the police are afraid to enter. I call b.s. plus kidnapping of anyone who may have money particularly wealthy foreigners is rife. I doubt it. Plus the humidity is vicious makes Florida look like the Sonora. Why weren’t they soaking wet. Come on. I guess if you want to believe…

I think you are right. I traveled across the US / Mexico border on foot and then down to Guatemala. It was dangerous and very uncomfortable. That was 1985. Taking a van or in my case a pickup truck and converted cargo carrier is a thought that I only see in a nightmare. It was bad enough crossing into Canada.
All these videos I see of people going south of the border in vans etc are either fake or they are nuts. Then there are all the videos encouraging people to move to Mexico for retirement. My uncle and aunt did that but it was 37 years ago. I can live just as cheap in the USA and don't have the problems.
Goodness, last year I went into Algodones for dental work. It was a pain in the rear. It was worth it. You have to balance between how much it is worth to get a particular job done. Being pestered and propositioned to get cheap dental work is worth it.
However 'wandering' down to Acapulco? Not on your nelly. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Narcos is the worst case scenario. The daily rip offs and indignities are the real problem. You are nobody there and dealing with the police as I did in Oaxca once was an eye opener.

Yep!! I actually have a converted enclosed cargo carrier. In May, as part of a ramp upgrade, I turned it into a deck. Then at the end of June I hit the road again.
I will probably never use it. It does look nice though. Mounting the spare wheel back there was a good idea too.
I actually have photos of the ramp down at Magnolia Beach. Taken from within they look exactly as you describe.
The main reason I don't have that ramp down is insects. I have a giant fly divebombing me as I write.

I agree!  I wouldn't want either of those two brats camping next to me.   Scantily clad or naked even, she's not not attractive  IMHO.

The vast majority of van dwellers I have  met on the road are good people.   Fake van dwellers not  so  much.

Well the Matneys did not respond to this critique of their videography in South America. No worries 66678, sure thing the Matneys are also NOT coming to RTR to camp next to you. But they still have 135k more subscribers than I do. Who's watching anyway.
