Hi, all~
Much of the info on Bob's YouTube and such seems to be about the southwest.
I've got family, including many grandkids, in Virginia, North and South Carolina.
Also have lots of friends and family in California, Nevada, & Utah, but I'm def too timid to drive that far at this time.
Are there many of y'all doing the Nomad life in the Carolina's?
I want to do it on the cheap, def not in RV parks! I work remotely as a part-time as a writer/editor so not looking for work.
I don't have a rig chosen yet but am leaning to a Class B. Big decisions!
Won't head out for good for almost a year but I plan to start with car and tent camping right away, to 'test the waters.'
My experience backpacking is in Alaska, & in the mountains of Southern California and Montana. While not completely new to the concept, I'm also like 40 years older now - haha!
Any tips or such would be welcomed!

Welcome to the CRVL forums SouthernLady!  We do have some forum nomads who spend most of their time east of the Mississippi. Hopefully they'll chime in. In the meantime check the freecampsites website -  https://freecampsites.net/

This is a very good deal at South Carolina state parks - half price camping during the winter months - http://southcarolinaparks.com/myrtlebeach/deals.aspx?dealId=1035

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started.   We look forward to hearing more from you.

Well, I'm mobile and go all around the country, and spend around half my time in the east. Asheville NC was a very nice place, Savannah GA was a lovely city and has lots of cool places to visit. My interests are mostly history and science. And of course there are lots of state parks and national parks all over the east.

Walmarts and Cracker Barrel parking lots are my go-to places for spending the night.

Hi SouthernLady! Another Southern Lady here. I was born and raised in SC and spent a lot of time in the lowcountry, since my mother was born and raised there and a lot of my family lived there. If you go to the freecampsites.com site and look for South Carolina, there are a few really nice places in the Francis Marion national forest. Unfortunately, the state has cut funding for them so much that they no longer have running water and no toilet facilites. One has a composting porta potty, I think I recall. Most don't even have garbage cans. Also, lots of insect repellent if you go in the summer months, because most of them are in swampy land. But if you want quiet and seclusion, you can find it there. I spent a lot of time camping in one outside of McClellanville, SC that has picnic tables and fire pits. I can't recall the name now, but if you check out that site, it will be there, I'm sure. There are a few places closer to Charleston, but that is REALLY swampy and and most of them are not as nice as the ones further up at the northern part of the forest.

The main thing to remember is to carry plenty of water in with you. If you don't, McClellanville is a nice little town where you can buy water or maybe get some from a free faucet at a gas station, but I haven't been there in so long, I don't know what is available anymore.

Most of the BLM land in SC is very rural and very rustic, so if you can handle that, you're golden!
