WRC thanks for the info!

The tranny slipping is in the little ford focus, and only in the overdrive. And, oh yes, in my brain. But I really appreciate all the shop info. I did get a tranny flush when I was in CA on the Ford, and that was @ 6 months ago. It was followed 1000 miles later after a local garage found a problem, opened the pan and shoveled the gunk out. So you are absolutely right, no one bothered to actually clean it out in a timely way, and now she is slipping in her overdrive (only a few times so far, but a hint of things to come). And as for the other, a flush will not help my brain, sadly. May need a frontal lobe rebuild.

The Dodge Van is strong strong strong and just flies down the road. But I think you are right on the number of gears. I kept waiting for her to shift up, and she didn't. But seemed to have no trouble, other than the running hot, then cooling, then heating up, then cooling. Again, I think there may be a sticky thermostat. The owners had let the van sit more than is good for her over the last year.

Thanks for the word on bands being adjusted and the ATF+4 fluid. The little local garage guy who dropped the little Ford Focus's pan gave me that lecture, so you must be as much a genius as he is! At any rate, sorry to babble, not sure what I'll do about the Ford ultimately.

Now I'm back in the South in a tiny town, where you can often find folks who are as honest as the day is long. Of course, you can also find folks who see you as their kid's braces. I'm hoping for the first when I get down to working on the Dodge Van.

Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone. Pics tomorrow. Gosh she is beautiful in the sunlight! LOL!!
