Hi I am Jose and I am pretty new to this awesome community. I am a young travel nurse that has been more and more inspired by watching people like you through CRVL. I’m from Colorado, and am taking my first steps into travel nursing.

I have dreams of starting this minimalist mobile lifestyle that would go hand-in-hand with travel nursing. Right now I’m working in LA, living in an apartment, with roommates and don’t have a bad living situation, but I think it would be wiser and more suitable for me to invest in some kind of mobile home for my work travels and adventures of course.

So right now I’m broke due to some current life factors (California mostly), but I’m starting a new job soon, and plan to save up so I can have an action plan.

I’m excited to see what ill learn from people here, and hoping to build an idea of what may work for me. Right now I have a 08 Tacoma 4x4 with a toe capacity of 3500lb that I plan to use in the future. Love my truck and plan to use it to start with.

Some questions:

At first I was considering a four-wheel-pop-up-camper that you mount on the bed. They are fancy but very expensive and may be hard to transition to full-timing if needed. I also like the idea of detaching from my mobile home, so I’m starting to think that a pull trailer may be better.

Yesterday I spent a reasonable amount of time looking at T@B trailers, fancy compact and cool, but that price tag. Think it’s worth saving up for?

Also are there any good sites you recommend where one can rent? I think that’s a good way to test-drive some of these ideas.

All for now, thanks again!

Jose! Welcome to the CRVL forums!
Look at everything. Get an idea of layouts, what you like and what you really need. Commercial trailers are often made of cheap materials. I'd be stalking Craigslist for custom and home manufactured builds.

Hi Jose and welcome to the forum. I admit I had no idea what a travel nurse was until I just googled the term. It's cool that your job combines work and travel. So what have you done so far for housing when your nursing assignment moves? Do you usually just have to find a hotel? Does your employer help out with that? Do you get assignments just within one state or is it all across the country? Sorry for all the questions, Just curious.

I've met a number of travel nurses on the road, and all very cool people. What an adventure!

Have you looked at the light fiberglass trailers like Casita and Scamp? They even have tiny 5th wheel models that would pull very well with your Tacoma. You can find them used, and they literally last forever.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Cyndi- Thanks for the advise, especially for custom builds on CL, I will keep my eyes pealed!

Angie- Yes so after schooling, we gain 2yrs of experience, then sign up with a travel nurse agency. We work with the agency for everything like assignment, housing, health insurance, and any other needs. Right not Im in an apartment in LA w 2 roommates who are also nurse travelers. The agency helps you attain you're license in whichever state you want to work in. Hope that helps, feel free to ask more :)

Maxadox- Funny you ask, i was just following this 2002 Casino on FB that sold for $9500 this week. I actually like these Casitas because they are more budget friendly. I hear they don't come up for sale too often too. Haven't checked out the Scamp yet but will.

Savage Adventure- Thank you!
