My property is about to sell, and within the next 6-8 weeks I will be moving my RV to my other lot.. NO SEPTIC.. so..
like a Good 'vandweller' sort, I wanted to start 'practicing' a little compost/bag.. alternative toilet duty... (ha ha.. doodie!! lol :):)

BUT.. I can't figure out HOW IN THE Heck to Turn OFF the water in there... ANYONE??
Thank you.
(I need my pump to run the kitchen..sooo.. that's out.)

I replied on your other thread too.
HDR why won't capping ( I suggested plug) the line work ?

popeye isn't that what I said. "don't flush or cap the line." btw you need a special cap/plug to seal it. highdesertranger

HDR
I guess I read it too fast or maybe while someone was talking to me ????? IDK
I thought it meant don't flush (and) don't cap the line......nevermind !
Got it this time......
As long as charterr gets her water straightened out ,,, hope I didn't add confusion to the confusion.

no problem popeye. when I went back to read it I read, don't flush or crap. lol I even had to read it twice. highdesertranger

First of all you'll want to turn off your pump and then unscrew the water line that leads into the toilet.  I had a leak on mine and had to have the line capped until I could replace the part that I needed on the toilet.

This pic is of the backside of the toilet where the water line goes in.  That's the part that I had to replace and where you'll need to unscrew the water line from.

This pic shows the water line after it was capped.  It was a B*%&^ to unscrew due to a combo of NO ROOM to work, not being able to see what I was doing and just my whole awkwardness with tools.  The little black thingy is the cap or plug or whatever you want to call it.  It has threads on it for you to screw it into the water line in place of where it was screwed into the toilet.  I found it at my local RV parts store.  If you tell them what you want they can usually help you find the part you need.  Showing them pictures of what you want works really well.  Since my terminology includes a lot of thingys and whatchamacallits.  The main thing is to know the diameter of the water pipe or line you want to cap so you can get the right size one.  So if you have a spare piece of pipe that's the same size maybe take that in.

this pic is to show the awkward position it was in.  What you're looking at in the picture is the view from underneath the back of the toilet looking up.  You can see the window blinds, so imagine that you are lying on your back looking up at the back end of your toilet.  Fun.  At least in my case there was no way to lie down there, so this picture was taken with my cell phone camera.

Actually, if you're not wanting to fix anything (ie, it's not broken, you just don't want to use the toilet.) then I'd recommend just taking the whole thing out after capping the line.  Then put a bucket over that hole and do the whole bucket thing.  It would give you a lot more room I'm thinking.  Taking it out can be a nasty job but someone has to do it!  LOL

Hope this helps

Either don't flush or cap the line = make a choice of one or the other <<<< HDR meant this, yes?

Don't flush or cap the line = means don't do either one

sorry ... third generation English teacher here. :) Plus I want to be clear on this direction, as I also plan on not wasting water usage with the toilet in my TT.

Cindi, can't a person just line the toilet with a bag? I can pretend it's a bucket. I just want to go potty in private without using water to flush. LOL I think Cher is thinking the same.

OK
So , is it leaking ?
If not , no water will flow unless you step on the flush or fill pedals.

ggwoman , how do you like my over use of punctuation ???? ;)

Just fine rvpopeye ..................................!!!

So just leave the toilet alone and use a liner and don't flush. Seems logical. What about the seal needing to stay wet/pliable to continue its ability to seal? Is that going to be an issue using the bag system? I don't want any smells. Someone said to put some Pinesol inside the black tank. Is that necessary as well? Guess I'll find out eventually. Met a woman today who RV's part time and she trained her cats to use the toilet using the cat sand/bag system. That also sounds like a winning plan for my situation.

Sure, you can.  And I have.  It just doesn't give much room.  Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like I would be sitting in "it" because the toilet bowl was maybe too shallow?  We all have different comfort levels.  I was just trying to answer Cher's question about HOW TO shut the water off, not tell her she doesn't need to shut it off.  Which of course she doesn't need to shut it off, per se.   But still knowing HOW to do it is what she said she wanted so hopefully that is of value.  If not to her than to someone else like me who didn't know anything about plumbing before getting an RV.

Well, I totally appreciate your directions, observations and pictures regarding how to shut down the water AND take out the toilet and have bookmarked this page for future reference.  Sooner or later it will come in handy.  :s   :D  I have never even used an RV toilet in my life, don't really know how they work, how the water system works, never set eyes on any of it and am just trying to keep my nerves calm.  This is one of the areas of ickiness I have to learn about.  hmmm I wonder if different rv toilets are different heights wise? Maybe one of those granny elevators would work?  I will find out tomorrow when I actually get my trailer. Oh boy! And, if my butt is sitting in "it", I'm going to work out more! LOL So thanks for explaining the part about "doesn't give much room" because I was thinking knee room, not shallowness of the bowl.  Ah heck, maybe it's easier just to find a bush and dig a hole or something.

I line my rv toilet with triple wally world bags in the winter when I have the water and holding tanks winterized. I just push them down to the bottom for the extra room (BEFORE I USE IT) Oh my goshk !
Pee in a laundry detergent jug .

Man.. you guys are hysterical, and YES, informative. even re-reading between the lines with all the English tutoring!! lol I had to read the post a couple of times, too, but I got it! :)

Apparently, MY water pressure is just "HUGE". ;) So, yes, I do want to cut it off completely, BECAUSE I can't seem to (by using the foot pedal) get the trap door to Shut WITHOUT some water getting in the bowl.

I didn't see the pictures, but I bet they were great, however, I do know what you're talking about because I had a tiny leak once and discovered it was loose at the connections SO.. NOW.. WONDERFUL>> they make a cap for it! Awesome!!

Thank you guys again for 'being there'! :)

I may at some point in the future remove the entire toilet. Mine is like a real Throne because it sits above the wheel well and I have to use a little stool for my foot(s) :):):) (Had to get my share of the 'English' issues in there, too!)

SO.. HERE'S What happened:

It took two 70 mile round trips, but I got 'my precious' piece of hardware to 'cap' the line to the toilet. Now 'cap' to me is NOT the word to visually describe it. The end of my little inlet hose at back of toilet was like a screw on hose end (female) while on the part was a threaded nub handle sort of thing. Wa La.. it was like magic. No more water to toilet.

In response to some of your conversation in this thread:

Water in 'bowl' of toilet - When hooked up normally, some of these RV toilets (like mine) would leave a little water in the hole no matter HOW fast, sneaky, etc. you let off of the foot pedal.
