My first winter in Florida, I thought "Wow, this is GREAT!!!!!"

My second winter in Florida, I thought "Jeebus it's effing cold!!!!!"

Once your blood thins, 95 is a normal day, and you start shivering if it gets below 75. That's why in the winter all the tourists have shorts and t-shirts, and all the locals are in sweaters.

Some years ago I lived in St Pete and worked for a sign company.  If it wasn't outside it was installing a sign in a not-yet-finished storefront, standing in the showcase window in full sun and no air - worse than outside because there was no breeze.

This is the third time I've stayed in this campground (Osceola Forest) - I really like it. Of course I need to be in sun for the solar, but I put up the EZ-up and have 3 fans going (2 12V and one 110). Got the door open and the trailer ramp down to make a shady porch for Todd and I have a curtain that goes across the back, so it's mostly all open. Like I did in Arizona I keep a wet towel in the fridge and sponge Todd down every so often when he's inside, plus I took the option of a water faucet, so I can mist him down when he's outside.  The poor cat OTOH has more hair than both of us and doesn't like lying in front of the fan. She's lying out flat on the floor, not moving a muscle - like me (except for this typing finger, of course)

The humidity isn't bad though so I'm just whining.  Saw guys doing construction on the way in - now THOSE guys have something to complain about.

Ah, I lived in St Pete (near Crescent Lake) for 20 years after moving from Pennsylvania, and I van-dwelled in St Pete for a month (to check out all the systems) before setting out around the country.

:)

If I ever do give up the nomadic life (and I have no plans to do so for the forseeable future) I'll probably settle down back in FL, but most likely over on the Space Coast instead of Tampa Bay.

I'm curious, Lenny.  I'm assuming you have a van now.  How do you deal with really hot and humid days?

When i lived in St Pete, I was in a second-floor apartment. Even with the A/C blasting, it was REALLY HOT up there. So I made sure I wasn't there during the day--I spent the whole day in the park or the mall or the zoo or the beach or whatever, and didn't go home till it started getting dark and cooled off.

In the van, I do the same thing. I spend the whole day somewhere else, and don't go back to the van till evening when it cools off. And if it's still warm in the van at night, I have a little electric fan that doesn't use much ampage, so I can run it while I sleep.

I have thought about putting in a couple of ventilation fans, but never got around to it, and really have been doing OK without them.
