Was looking around a pawn shop yesterday and found a very nice looking Honda EU1000. The owner took it outside and it started on the first pull and ran so quiet we could talk normally while standing right next to it.

I bought it at a really good price and this morning while cold it started on the first 12" of the first pull and purred like a kitten.

This thing is so small it will be easy to stow away in the Starship Grumman Olson as a cloudy day power source.

Anyone else using this model?

You will only be sorry it isn't larger. But an excellent generator.

Pretty much everyone on this forum will endorse either the Honda or Yamaha brand generators. Every other brand gets slammed for one reason or another. I have the Yamaha 2000 generator myself. You can't go wrong with your Honda generator though, especially if you got it for a really good price.

I have the Honda EU1000i, a Yamaha 1000 watt, and a Husky 2,200 watt with Subaru Robbins engine.

I like the Honda so much I'm going to sell the other two.

I have a Honda also so I'm a big fan, but I'm surprised you find it superior to the Yamaha. Can you tell us how it's better?
Bob

doesn't the Yamaha have a higher continuous wattage rating? I know on the 2,000 watt models they do. but you really can't go wrong with either one. highdesertranger

My Yamaha is the older Blue all metal clad generator. It doesn't start as easily as the Honda and weighs a lot more. The Yamaha is very quiet like the Honda, and sips gas like the Honda as well. The Honda has ECO which adjusts the run speed of the generator to match the load, the Yamaha doesn't.

The Husky with the Subaru engine is loud and gulps the fuel. I just bought it because I got it new from a friend for $250.00 and it's 2,200 watts.

Honda and Yamaha are both great products but there is a far larger dealer support base for the Honda line. The good thing is that of all the generators built, H and Y are the least likely to need parts and service.

If the 1000 does what you want it will be more economical at 8.3 hours on .6 gallon while the 2000 does about 4.8 on .6 gallon.
At 7.5 amps at 900 watts it will run most battery chargers that you would use. And it's only 29 pounds. Run it every couple weeks to prevent carb problems and drain the carb bowl for longer term storage.

AND keep a close eye on it or it will be gone.

Is anyone running a small AC on the EU1000? It's like 850W right?

It's 900 watts continuous power. The problem with small AC units is the initial draw of amperage. I have an 8,000 BTU window unit in my TT that only draws 540 watts while running, but it has a large initial draw.

I plan on trying my 5,000 BTU unit with this Honda generator.

I'm using an old, yet like new 1985 Honda EM500 generator. It is no more efficient than the Honda EU1000i, and almost as quiet, yet it's purchase price was only $150 used, so I bot a second one for $200. For myself, 400 watts continuous is more than I would use from my solar system. It provides 8.3 amps for battery charging, and that is it's primary job. If necessary, I can run both, and charge the batteries with 16.6 amps without the use of battery charger, near the maximum rate that is healthy, and the recommended 20% maximum for the 210AH Costco golf cart battery pair. Like the Honda EU1000i, it can run for about 8 hours on .6 gallons with a 50% load, yet the purchase price was much less, so I can afford to buy fuel. Considering the total cost of ownership, the fuel needed to run it is practically free. New, the Honda EU1000i is about $950. One EM500 cost me $200. This means I get to buy $550 worth of fuel at $4.50/gal to run the EM500 for the first 200 hours for free. These old generators are almost simple stupid to work on. If one breaks, I'll have little trouble swapping on a replacement part from the second generator...

I agree RogueRV2, the Honda EM series of generators are outstanding and if you can get them that cheap an amazing bargain!

It just speaks to Honda quality that all these decades later you can still recommend them as a great purchase. Try to do that with your cheap contractor or HF generator!
