HDR, I know you're familiar with So-Cal. Do you know where the closest place to Anaheim would be where I could camp. AND put up a few targets and shoot my guns (pistols) ? Preferably BLM/boondock type spots ?
Any others feel free to chime in.......please/thank you .

IF I WERE "U" I WOULD DRIVE EAST KEEP GOING UNTIL YOU HIT NEVADA
The same thing I was gonna say. If you like to shoot, get the heck out of Southern California!

to legally shoot long guns and hand guns, you need to go north of I-15 until Barstow then it's pretty much wide open. around Barstow I like to go to the Copper City Road. from Barstow take the Fort Irwin road north to the Copper City Road north. the road climbs to a low pass go over the pass and past the few house. there are many spur roads after that, take any. my old claim is to the east of Copper City Road. another good spot is the Cuddyback lake area. take 395 north from I-15. about 26 miles north of Kramer Jct(intersection of 395 and 58) take Cuddyback road east, there is a sign that says Cuddyback road(east) and California Tortoise reserve(west) . I like to go behind Pilot Butte(the east side). Pilot Butte is the tall mountain you will see to the east when you make the turn off of 395 it's a very distinctive geological feature hence the name Pilot Butte. of course there are many other places. not far from Cuddyback is the old mining town of Randsburg a must see for a step back in time. http://www.desertusa.com/cities/ca/randsburg-ca.html . stop in for a rootbeer float and a walk about town. a short video, http://www.desertusa.com/video_pages/randsburg.html . highdesertranger

HA NEVER BEEN LOOKS like a good place to stop and shop, usually make a few bucks buying something to re-sell THANKS HDR

Beyond Barstow is good, but.......... Try to make sure that you have some kind of backdrop to stop the bullets. My boss and his family were out on a road somewhere around Calico, just looking around. His daughter found some nice rocks, dropped one beside the car, and just as she bent over to pick it up, a bullet smashed into the car above her. The police said it could have come from over a mile away.

I spent a winter camped just north of Victorville/Adelanto just off of 395. There was an improvised range there and locals regularly came to shoot. It was into a hill so it was quite safe.
