Hello all!  I am a 71 year young female.  I live in a mobile home that is falling apart. Until I found this website I was sickened at the thought of having to spend what little money I had to tear down my mobile home so I would no longer have to pay the lot rent.  I was sad to think that I would spend what little time I have left in senior housing watching tv waiting to die. I am downsizing to keep going from month and when the snowbirds come back  I hope to sell whatever I have left to tear my mobile down. I have an older suv with tons of miles on it, but I am dreaming of living in it. I do not know if it will last, but I would much rather live in it and be free then sit in a recliner and wait to die.  Thank you Bob and the tribe for being here and giving me hope.

Sounds like you have the requisite spirit of adventure, moondancer!

What part of the country are you in? Is it agreeable weather for living in an SUV? Or are you planning to be in the west where you can move to get to the weather you'd need?

I am in Central Florida. I have a lot to learn and a lot to do. Have to get out of my current situation. Have already tried to sleep 1 nite on the floor of my suv in my carport. It was much too hot. So, as I said I have a lot to learn, and almost no budget at this time. But I am working on it. From what I have been reading it sounds like the west is almost my only choice. Its just scary, its so far to go with an old vehicle. And I will not have any emergancy money until after I can actually start boondocking. Any advice ?

Welcome to the CRVL forums moondancer5! Yes, the west is probably your best choice. The elevation in Arizona varies enough that you can stay comfortable the entire year without driving very far plus the amount of public land will allow you to camp for free all year long. It would be good to have an emergency fund before you drive across the country. Is there a way for you to save a little every month? I guessing you won't be going until next winter if you're waiting until the snowbirds return.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

You won't have much room in the SUV, so you can start by selling everything you possibly to build up a reserve and travel fund. Since you have some time, try to get the most you can for all of it.
Bob

Welcome aboard Moondancer !
Yup sure is warm in Florida now , at least you missed out on the "tropical depression" .
You're doing the right thing giving the SUV a test dwell......

You just found a BUNCH of new friends that all "get it" !
I'm with Bob , start downsizing asap.
We just had our first summer day here in Maine yesterday, 85* !
66* today backta normal , Oh Ayuh !

Thank you for your encouragement. Yes, we missed the tropical depression. I am trying to read and learn as much as I can. Trying to make a list of things that I will need to be able to sleep in the rv. My first experiment was a total failure. My funds are extremely limited right now so I am trying to learn and make lists. I have an Isuzu Rodeo . I am trying to sort things and get them ready for a garage sale and as many trips to the flea market as it takes once the northerners return to our area. I am so glad to have found a bunch of new friends that understand. I have so much to learn. Any suggestions or advise is welcomed.

YW
Just ask about anything that pops into your head!
Maybe start a new thread with the subject of the question as the title , you'll get more responses.

It looks like this storm belongs to S Carolina, although it is blowing a lot of wet all the way up here !

Welcome Moondancer!
It sounds like you have quite a bit of concern about the reliability of your SUV. Maybe someone more mechanically minded than I can give you better advice but I do know that even though it has a ton of miles, if it's been maintained, you're ahead of the game.
How's the tread on the tires? Is there any dryrot?
Your owners manual will guide you as to what needs to be done and when.
Of course you may know all this but sometimes the basics slip by when we are focusing on all the details of transitioning.

Thank you very much. I appreciate all thoughts, suggestions, etc. You are definitely correct when you say things can slip by because there is so much to think about and try to learn. To start a thread with a question, should it be in the newcomer section ?

I do not believe it has to be in the newcomers section.  Find a category that most closely matches your question(s) and go for it!
If it makes you feel more comfortable, just can mention that you are a newcomer in the post but it really isn't necessary I don't think.
