Hi all, 

     I live in an apartment but I got a minivan a few months ago to replace the aging sedan I was using and I want to use the van to camp in eventually and maybe in 2-3 years live in it so I don't have to pay rent. 
      I also would like to get a very small cargo trailer to make it into a camper, but money is tight around here and I can only take on one project at a time.
     I've been enjoying the cheap rv living channel on you tube for almost 2 years, even though I didn't have a van most of that time. The lifestyle seemed kinda fun and practical and interesting.

Welcome to the Forum, there are some good people here, willing to give advice, tips and tricks.. there are also several people in Minivans and SUV's..

Not exactly sure what you are thinking, or what your situation is. But I will give you a little of my history.. and made it will get you thinking.

At the moment I am in up State NY. before this, I was in the Miami Florida area.. I also have a mini van.. and back in February I gave up my small studio apartment, made myself a simple little platform for a bed. took out all the rear seats. and that is were I lived.. mostly stayed in a Walmart Parking lot.. and I did that until I came back up to NY. Now I am building it out properly..

I guess what I am trying to say here. is if you have the minivan.. you have most of what you need.. and you do not really need to wait the 2-3 years.. you can start preparing to do it now.. give up your apartment, and save your rent money to build out your van..

there are lots of ways to get around personal hygiene, especially if you are still working.. But I guess what I am trying to say here, is you do not need to wait 2-3 years..

Learn what you need immediately get some advice from the good people here, and you could be saving money sooner than you think..

I have a minivan and love it. If your not ready for full time you can have wonderful mini trips as you get used to a small space. These mini trips are also excellent for figuring out what you need to take with you. I also found out what kinds of food to take. I think going cheap works for me so I can use my funds for the travel part of my outings.

Hi, I'm also new I have a one year plan to move from a rented townhouse to a van I don't own yet lol. I figure get the van, do enough to it over a few months to be able to live in it and then ditch the townhouse - from there use the money I'm saving on rent to upgrade to my dream van

We all must take our own time,  it is a change of life, it is out side of what is "NORMAL".. 
for any reservations you have, treat them just like anything else, gain knowledge, knowledge gives you power, knowledge gives you strength. 

This life style is easy for me to adjust to because I drove tractor trailer for 13 years, never had an apartment or a vehicle.... But in the beginning, I can safely say it was a bit of a shock, But once I got the basics down, it was easy, and some of the views in this country are absolutely amazing to see for yourself. many times photos do not do them justice.
