I bought 93/Ford E150 and it have two batteries. The main battery start and the other small must be running the lights. ( I am guessing . My question is I want to buy a new battery and I am thinking about buying Yellow top?. What U think or suggestions?. Thanks

Optima's are coasting on their reputation.  The company was sold some years ago, and the new owners moved production to Mexico.  The quality ain't nearly what it used to be.

Odyssey makes a much better AGM battery these days.

IMNPHO.

I am curious. what makes you think the second battery runs your running lights? that would be an odd set up. usually you have an engine battery and a house battery/batteries. I think you should look a little deeper into this. maybe disconnect the second battery and see doesn't work. highdesertranger

It's possible that he could disconnect the small battery and EVERYTHING could still work.  One of the setups that Hellroaring suggests is to power EVERYTHING off the engine battery, and have a small, reserve starting battery.

you know what now that I reread your post I see it says running the lights. I read it as powering the running lights. my bad. I feel there are better options than the Odessy the people I know that have had them have not had good luck with them. highdesertranger

Odyssey make a great battery, but it requires huge charging currents when depleted to 50% and the owners never bother to meet this need.

And Like all Lead acid batteries, but especially AGM, they need to be fully charged as often as possible, as soon as possible

Optima batteries have 25% less capacity than a rectangular AGM battery.  That 6 pack design orbital design does not make for any magical properties, or make up for the lack of Lead.  They are well marketed however.

Unless the OP absolutely requires an AGM battery, I think they would be best off financially with a Wally world marine battery.

If an AGM is absolutly required, Goto Costco and get one of their Duracell AGM batteries, they are a rebadged Deka Intimidator.

If the OP insists on having a bragging rights top $$ battery, Northstar, Odyssey, Lifeline, but all of these will be murdered my too little charging current, applied too seldom and for too short a duration, Just like every other lead acid battery.  They will just cost a lot more to replace, and the owner needs to realize their rather insane price tag does not make them immune to abuse.

Batteries+ sell a rebadged Northstar AGM battery as X2 power.

My Northstar Group27AGM is performing very well closing in on 2 years and about 175 deep cycles, but I can charge it properly.

thanks Stern that is the brand I was thinking about Optima. looks like a six pack. that's the one everybody that I know, has had bad luck with. highdesertranger
